I noticed when transfering my tapes to DVD, when I got to TV Heaven 1978, that the earliest episodes of the 'South Bank Show' had the old river ident on.
When did the LWT ident change?
The same goes for the first LWT idents as well!
Has any ITV ident dramatically changed, apart from the franchise changes.
I can only think of the 1st / 2nd Central idents meself.

Depends on what river ident you mean. If you mean the London Weekend 'LW' river ident (introduced in 1971), this was changed in 1978 when the company became London Weekend Television. This ident was similar to it's predesessor, except the river spelled out LWT instead of just LW, and the letters detached from each other at the end. This in turn lasted until 1986.

I was just intrigued to know when in 1978 the LWT ident changed, because I thought the 'South Bank Show' started under the Mark 2 ribbon, not the mark 1 ! Plus there was a comment on the 'Doctor In The House' thread which said that out of the first 13, the first 12 had one set of LWT idents, but the 13th had a different set!

I'd say the LWT tricolour (i.e. ribbon) was ditched in September 1978. Probably the presence of the LWT orange ident on the last ep of the first series of DITH may be because LWT had adapted it by then. Wasn't that particular ep of DITH one of the first colour programmes broadcast by ITV prior to the beginning of the full colour service on 15.11.69 ?
