What is the survival rate of old tv programmes in other countries (by which I probably mean Western Europe) whose tv executives could offer exactly the same excuses as ours for the mass junkings? If, say, the Swedish archive is much fuller than ours, it would give the lie to the BBC apologists who claim that "hindsight is a wonderful thing", "vtr tape too expensive to avoid reusing", "no historical significance attached to light entertainment" etc etc etc
Do any of our correspondents have a sufficiently wide knowledge of another country's archive to be able to answer this query?
