I have a heavy bias - I hate colourisation from a gut level unless the original was released in colour and your are just restoring it. If you want to make it and/or watch it, then go ahead. But I definitely want nothing to do with it.

Not sure what you mean there, but I'll start saving anyway! Just that some should just try it lol. They might find that apart from S/E dvds that might be it for the old classic range. I would love to see dvds released with 2 dvds, colour and B/W. It would be interesting to see how it would of been had colour had been brought in earlier like the Americans did to their shows. Just curious thats all.

If done well, I personally enjoy seeing colourisations of b/w stories - BUT only so long as the b/w originals are also available as the default versions.

With stories like marco Polo and Celestial toymaker, the colour would really bring out the best in that story. So much colour in those two. As we have seen in the picture stills. I know that change is strange, but when i watch the wizard of oz and see B/W go into colour it just amazes me I know the colours in oz are thrown at you ! But i kind of am really hooked on this idea of seeing the two together one day on a special Edition dvd.

Yes, I know it's like re-writing the past with the benefit of hindsight and probably horrifies some hardcore fans but it's fun seeing "what if?" style colourisations; it can bring something to life in a startling new way. Some awful attempts at colourisation have appreared in the past (not only DW) though, which is why I say I would enjoy it only if done convincingly.
I know it would only happen if either the cost of the process came down dramatically or someone who was able to do it properly took it upon themselves to put in the man hours necessary (both of those happening together would probably be the decider). One each of the Hartnell and Troughton stories would be what I'd like to see myself (Tomb Of The Cybermen or Mind Robber would be my choice for the Troughton, being expansive stories with "colourful" settings and characters and would therefore lend themselves well to the process; Web still has an episode missing, although this probably works best in b/w anyway, being in the shadows and darkness of the tube network for much of the time).
I would hate for something like this to then become the new default version though.

The colour pics of The Aztecs sets are good as well.

So, when colouring B&W stories should the process match exactly the colours seen in any colour photos taken at the time, or should a new palette be chosen?
The reason I ask is that I seem to recall the colours of sets, costumes & makeup were all chosen to give the best contrast/visibility on B&W TVs - which means they might not have been realised the same way had the programme being recorded in colour.
