Can anyone help me with some information. A friend of mine at Elstree Studios was telling me he remembers Dennis Price doing some filming there for The Golden Shot. He seems to think Dennis played a butler or something. Could anyone give me a timeframe when this might have happened, who the host was, whether he did indeed play a butler and o/t at last whether any of these episodes survive? Thanks in advance.

The only clue i could give you about the time it may have been filmed was the late 60s-Dennis price was appearing in BBCs The World of Wooster as butler Jeeves oppisite Ian carmichael as Wooster. The seris was on BBC2 from 1965-1968. Only one ep and a ten minute clip from another show survive. I think Dennis price did quite a few films as a butler,or the country squire type. It's probably the sought of film that gets discovered by network when they decide to put together a best of ancient game show DVD.

AFAIK the only shows transmitted from Elstree were:
Jackie Rae 08/07/67 Jackie Rae 15/07/67 Jackie Rae 22/07/67 Jackie Rae 29/07/67 Jackie Rae 05/08/67 Jackie Rae 12/08/67 Jackie Rae 19/08/67 Jackie Rae 26/08/67 Jackie Rae 02/09/67 Jackie Rae 09/09/67 Jackie Rae 16/09/67 Jackie Rae 23/09/67 Jackie Rae 30/09/67 Jackie Rae 07/10/67 Bob Monkhouse 14/10/67
The only existing one from these is 29/07/67, which features Tom Jones, no Dennis Price. (You've probably seen this edition which was repeated on Challenge TV).
There's a possibility that the 09/09/67 edition may exist in the Monkhouse archive, as he had a copy of this made to show Lew Grade he was a perfect candidate to host the show, however I have no credit details for this edition thus far.
From 21/10/67 the show was from Birmingham, again AFAIK.
When I get round to doing some more research I'll be able to pin down a date if Price's name appears.

From Monkhouse taking the helm in 14/10/67 s a comedy butler was introduced in the form of Norman Chappel if this is any help - still no Price though.
