Radio 1, Steeleye Span,& Stanley Unwin
An unlikely combination for Radio 1 some might say but these three did come together in the seventies for some sort
of Christmas comedy play the title of which escapes me.
It also had contributions from comedy actress Rita Webb and Radio 1 DJ Paul Burnett.
Does anyone else remember it? and do we know if it still excists in the BBC archives.
Would be nice to here it again.
PS I do remember quite well the reply of Rita Webb to one question put to her in the programme 'How do you make a venetion blind' 'Poke him in the bleedin eye' came Ritas booming reply.

I have managed to find a copy of this on line, apparantly the beebs copy was lost/destroyed many years ago which is a great shame.

Christopher it was a radio play called 'Mad Modern Mummers' or Dr Frankenstein meets the SS (Steeleye Span).I dont have a original transmission date other than I think it went out at Christmas time in about 1975 when Radio 1 shared the Radio 2 VHF network at certain times.
It has been posted by someone who is a keen Steeleye fan who was sent this recording. Not sure if I can post a link to it but if you feel like having a listen type 'steeleye span lost radio play' in a search engine and you will see it.
I'm afraid the quality is not that good (it was recorded on cassette) a lot of tape hiss and some background hum but I have done a cleaned up copy and it now sounds acceptable.
