Writing On The Wall group Pop Scotch appearance Pictures and 1st hand TV comments... The Facebook page below includes 2 fantastic b/w pictures of the Edinburgh Rock Group Writing on the Wall appearing on Grampian TV's (Pop Scotch) you can make out the audience sitting on a row of seats behind the group The Facebook page also includes some great first hand recollections from people who watched the show on TV... It's introduced by the presenter on Grampian TV. He thanks The Move then W.O.T.W start with Lucifer Corpus. The presenter then introduces the band members before they do Hill Of Dreams. It fades out before the end REPLY... had a listen on Spotify. the presenter is Jack Mclaughlin. When it was broadcast on TV the performance ends halfway through Lucifers Corpus. Linnie gets to the point of the crab like dancing he did back and forward across the stage and that was that. Where was this sourcedREPLY... Yes, Pop Scotch that's it! I remember dad always telling us that it went to the adverts and when it came back on the first thing you saw was a close up of Jake with the big dummy and the Nappy! Haha! BrilliantREPLY... I tried Grampian TV years ago and they said it went out live so there are no tapes. Ted Mckenna of S.A.H.B told me he watched a playback on tape. Were they taped over or do they exist? My memory is 1970 on this programme doing Mrs Coopers Pie and playing the programme out with Lucifer CorpusSeemingly Jake Scott from the band wore NAPPIES! on stage whilst they performed. UPDATE... 7th May 1969 show (Series 1 episode 3) featured The Walker Brothers singing "If I were a Carpenter" I'm updating this information onto the episode guide on page 1 of this thread. Great info, but of course it is just John Walker performing the song. The Walker Brothers didn't even exist in 1969, as they split in 1967.

According to a post on Writing on the Wall Facebook page this is the group recorded from an episode of (Popscotch) listen below you can hear an audience clap at the end ... www.dailymotion.com/video/xyj4gnand these are the comments about the post Graham Robertson: I asked a friend of mine who worked at Grampian Tv about the tapes. He said that all tapes were re-used and taped over due to cost. The chances of these tapes surviving are extremely rare. Unfortunately, he is no longer with us. John Polson: I tried Grampian TV years ago and they said it went out live so theres no tapes. Ted Mackenna of SAHB told me he watched a playback on tape. Were they taped over or do they exist? My memory is 1970 on this programme doing Mrs Coopers Pie and playing the programme out with Lucifer Corpus

Thing is John that this is what someone said on the Facebook page ... Bellyful of Rock. This is the audio from a live set WOTW recorded for a programme called Pop Scotch (1972-1973ish). Sadly none of the footage has ever surfaced. The line up is Willie Finlayson (vocals/guitar), Jake Scott (bass), Jimmy Hush (drums/vocals) and Alby Greenhaugh (saxophone)
So I realise it's a bit contradictory (but) He mentions (Popscotch) but is it was Popscotch then it could'nt have been 1972 or 1973.

It's more than a bit contradictory as far as I can see, especially as the previous mentions of the group appearing on Pop Scotch have them performing completely different songs (it is not clear if recordings survive of those or not) on a show on which the Move had also appeared. The line-up mentioned above does suggest a timescale of ca 1972/73, after the organist Bill Scott had left the group and Willie Finlayson had rejoined (he had previously left the group in 1969) The recording on Daily Motion has no organ player and if it is from a Scottish TV appearance it would seem to me to be from one later than Pop Scotch.

There was a Grampian series called ‘Sounds ‘73’ that featured rock bands. It was shown in July and August 1973. Could the recording of ‘Bellyful of Rock’ be from that?

I get your point John, but I don't know what to think now; as why would the guy specifically mention Popscotch ?
