This is peculiar. In my local Poundland-it's an emporium which sells foodstuffs, haberdashery, etc. at a fixed price-today I've picked up 3 DVDs of 'The Sooty Show' or 'The Lost Shows' as they're called on the discs themselves. On the first disc presenter Richard Cadell says that when he bought the rights to Sooty and the props etc.,he discovered a cache of unseen films which Harry Corbett made for an American producer who was convinced that Sooty could be big in the U.S.However,the producer died,so here's b&w episode 'Sooty's Toy Shop',never before presented to the public... By vol.2 we're getting "Sooty's found three episodes which have never, ever, been seen before, but these are more recent from the 1970s",and we segue into 'Sooty's Tea Party' in colour from the 1970s. So...These are referred to as "episodes" throughout, but are they? Why are they unseen,if they are? Is there any connection with (a)The 8mm home-movie reconstructions of classic episodes which were marketed,or (b)to the 70s shows uncovered at the BFI last year by Ray Langstone?
Vol.1: Sooty's Teashop/Olympics/Birthday Party/Engineering Company. Vol.2: Tea Party/Pottery/Spaceship/Garage. Vol.3: Bath Night/The Champ/Chemist Shop/At the Organ.
