when the BBC or ITV etc show films (ie ET, Top Gun, Back to the future etc etc) do they borrow them from a central film library or do they hold loads of films in their archive

I read that once the BBC used to ask the distributers for a new print, now I expect they get a VT copy sent to them.
Anyone remember when ITV first showed Beverly Hills Cop 2, they used a US airline VT copy that was already censored on the soundtrack as they wanted it for pre-watershed.
