To see a Dr who story come to Dvd is exciting but why a Special Edition ? Will remastering the same story again make it look any better ? will there be a Special Edition for every single story ?
Or is BBC milking fans even more ?

Because it's been ten years since some of the stories were originally released. In that time, transfer technology his improved, video codecs have improved and VidFIRE has improved, so many of the early stories can look much better than they did previously. It also gives the team the opportunity to include new extra material as well.
In answer to you're other questions, no, there won't be Special Editions of every story and no, it's not the BBC milking the fans.

The Special Editions allow new special features and restoration to take place; just look at Inferno. They don't plan to re-release everything, no.
(Shouldn't this be in the Out of the Archive section?)

I cannot comprehend this concept that it's somehow "milking the fans" to release another version of something -- if you bought the old version, and you are happy with it, then you are under no obligation to buy the new version.

Restoration techniques are constantly being refined and new ones invented. For example, look at Colour Recovery - if they'd released Mind of Evil a few years ago, it could only have been black and white but now you have it in colour. Also, Claws of Axos and Inferno special editions - they look fantastic compared to the original releases because of advances in restoration.
It has been clearly stated that special editions will only be produced if the picture quality can now be significantly improved. They are not released in order to produce new extras - they are just a bonus.
So if superior picture quality is important to you, buy the special editions; if not, then stick with what you have.
It is certainly not a means of milking fans.

Or you already own The Aztecs on DVD. You decide NOT to spend money on the Special Edition, as you already own the serial, and nobody is forcing you to buy it again. To say nothing of the fact that it's a bit dull.
BUT your joy of discovering that an episode of Galaxy 4 has been recovered does have a sour edge to it when you discover that this episode will only be on the Special Edition DVD of The Aztecs.

There are issues here that don't really have answers to please everybody. I'm looking forward to seeing the Inferno SE and I'd like an updated Sea Devils as there is a noticeable difference in quality between those episodes that survived on 2" PAL Quad and the others. I'd also buy updated versions of Daemons, Ambassadors and Invasion of the Dinosaurs if the film sequences could be made less "muddy". It's slightly disappointing that in stories with decent amounts of filming it's those sections that now have the poorest picture quality The question of "orphan" episodes is equally difficult. I can't see a DVD release comprising Airlock, the other surviving six minutes, any production pictures, a "making of" featurette, plus some sort of reconstruction of the missing two and three quarter episodes being attractive to other than hard core fans.

We've had this discussion before...
The general agreement was that it wouldn't have killed anybody to put the Galaxy 4 episode on the Tenth Planet DVD rather than the re-released Aztecs.

Therefore, I still don't get why a PAL-extant serial like 'The Green Death' needs an SE. Doubtless, technophiles on here could tell the difference in quality, but I doubt a general audience would.

You own the original Spearhead from Space DVD and are happy with it, but if you also want Terror of the Autons on DVD you are forced to buy Spearhead again as I did. Whilst I agree with some of the sentiments expressed here, I readily admit I was annoyed having to buy "Spearhead" again to get "Terror Of The Autons"... until I watched the new "Spearhead" - the difference in quality is utterly stunning. I was extremely pleased to replace the original DVD, so it was worth the extra expense since it is a fave story so... I think that's ultimately the deciding factor - "Inferno" is my fave Pertwee and will certainly buy the special edition, whereas I'm not that bothered about "Claws Of Axos", "The Aztecs" and most of the others so am happy enough with the original DVD's. I do wish they'd release the remastered Vidfired "Tomb Of The Cybermen" as a standalone release... I haven't bothered with that Revisitations set but would love to have "Tomb" in upgraded quality.
