Anyone know, if this is being kept a secret ? Maybe a silly question to pose, if the above is the case... But why keep it a secret (for the time being...)?

She's probabaly trying to contact the person with the footage to get them to view all the material and compare it to the "missing episodes" list. Didn't this site used to have a Steptoe listing? It doesn't now. I remember a while abck someone had some possible missing material but it was on an obsolete viewing system so everyone ahd to wait until a suitable 1960s machine could be found. Anyway, let's hold thumbs that some of the material that this person has is indeed some much-missed 'Arold.............

Are you referring to my thread ( here)? If so, then I can confirm that no missing colour episodes have been found, but the possibility is being investigated. Several weeks ago, I came across a trader who seemed to possess colour copies of the missing Steptoe and Son (and Timeslip) episodes. I originally sent the lead to Dick Fiddy, but the trader didn't respond to his e-mails. Consequently, I e-mailed them once myself to explain the situation to them as I thought they might have been scared off by the official status of the BFI. I finally - not to mention unexpectedly as I'd just given up that same day - received a reply yesterday and, thanks to David Buck, was able to send them a list of the missing colour episodes. Unfortunately, their e-mail was a little vague, but I was able to determine that they do have every episode of Steptoe and Son ("just missing both Christmas Specials and the 2 films") and Timeslip. I'm now waiting to find out if any of them are in colour as originally implied.

The ones I'm referring to, are supposedly, original 2" tape copies... That's all I can say at the moment...

I only got into Steptoe and Son recently and have yet to see a colour episode. Why would the recovery be kept a secret though unless it wasn't complete?

Have no idea, as to why it might be kept a secret... I've been a fan of Steptoe now, since I was a small boy, and have seen every episode, at least 4 times (sad maybe, but true)! You've got a hell of a lot, to look forward to, if you really haven't seen any of the colour ones, yet! I wish I could go back to the day, when they were all new to me. Treat it like a new comedy, just written several decades ago - as I have, with other comedy programmes I've only recently seen, but were made years ago. In my opinion, nothing is being written today, that can compare... Finally, that's hope, that these previous missing shows, do turn up in colour. It looks like we may have a couple of chances of this happening... So, I for one, am keeping my fingers crossed...
