Just in case you think I haven't been doing anything in the past two months, here's a number of things - mostly wiped - I spotted on youtube or t'internet.
Some might be ones I've posted about, but.... hey it's TV and we're used to repeats, right?
The Cambridge Historian has uploaded some more wiped bits - here is some news:-
www.youtube.com/watch?v=mdj0ucGy-qA and some more news:-
www.youtube.com/watch?v=Owj_cbCuBkg and even more news:-
www.youtube.com/watch?v=fh9kBIIV-_I .
Anyway, small potatoes for most of you - but here's another wiped Big Breakfast. It's the one from 25/12/1997 - yes, that's the right, the Xmas Special was junked....!!!!:-
www.youtube.com/watch?v=Zsf2zDXkArEThis isn't much but.... it does have scarcity value. It's some Anglia TV continuity with a bit of Birthday Club. This is only the third one known to exist, and the oldest, dating from 18/11/1985. Not much, I know, but....
www.youtube.com/watch?v=VV87cyXwx48(Fanfare, played by the Temple City Kazoo Orchestra).........
Currently I am the World Record Holder for discovering the most missing believed wiped episodes of 'Home Cookery Club'. There you go, best at something....
Here for your delectation and delight is the small screen classic that was 'Leek'n'Lamb Platter' from 27th January 1989, a repeat broadcast of the wiped edition from 27/02/1986.
There's also some other bits of continuity and whatnot; some of that is probably missing too.
Philip Elsmore is the steady pair of hands here steering the good ship Thames through the desolate creeks of mid-afternoon television.
Don't anybody be going to find 6 Home Cookery Clubs now....
www.youtube.com/watch?v=tGNf29rA4UsIn the distant past I located an upload with some excerpts from the wiped STV show Battle of the Comics. I tries in vain to get the video back, but with no success. Anyway, I mostly forgot about it until now, partly because I'd mislaid the reference. The footage here comes from Series 1, and, as far as I know is the only material known to exist from any series:-
www.youtube.com/watch?v=8sEXNU8fRwg&lc=UghjPRH_px_GdngCoAEC.7-H0Z7-Dz0S9YZTIBSJvdAI don't think I've mentioned this one before?
? Either way, here's a Saturday Picture Show from 03/05/1986.
There are other uploads of the series online - mainly clips - and I know about all the others, but this is almost a complete episode:-
www.youtube.com/watch?v=3xzJmvJRnYkA small but interesting find. 2 minutes of the elusive appearance of Dexy's on Tiswas from 03/05/1980. Apparently, the entire show is out there somewhere. In the meanwhile:-
www.youtube.com/watch?v=nCiMnS4j_eUAs found by my friend Robert Brown, an edition of Sky Star Search from March 1989:-
www.youtube.com/watch?v=1D1w_SWCyY8More small spuds. A missing TVS News (Late Evening Bulletin) from 08/01/1986, with additional bits of the ITN News and Midweek Sport Special:-
www.youtube.com/watch?v=_cPMZTlwNj8I have FINALLY managed to date the clip of the NYJO performing on Magpie. 28/01/1977. It's wiped.
www.youtube.com/watch?v=Kd6rag7P3dIA missing QoS. It's the last in the 23rd series, and from what I gather there were some issue with the tapes that BBC Manchester had of this and a few other episodes.
This is an off-air VHS transfer and it dates from 20/04/1993:-
www.youtube.com/watch?v=XJO0vAyzK44As found on youtube by Gareth Joy, confirmed as missing, not held by NLW or anyone else:-
www.youtube.com/watch?v=cINGNrLFs7AA wiped performance of King Rocker (and interview) by Generation X on the Saturday Morning Show, 03/05/1979.
I cannot for the life of me recall if I spotted this one ages ago or not, but, hey, if I did, like I said, we do repeats, right?:-https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=cQfpyRqnkw8
An extract from the missing 07/12/1986 'Highway' episode:-
www.youtube.com/watch?v=NuicPN8zA0gGrampian made a number of short shows called Reflections - these were broadcast just before closedown, so a wee bit like Night Thoughts for those of you more used to Thames.
Precious few of these exist.
Just for you, though, is one I found earlier - which I managed to miss during the last 10-and-a-bit years of it being on youtube:-
www.youtube.com/watch?v=1wZTs7slPk8Several years ago I located an episode of 'One Over the Eight' featuring Demis Roussos (the same gent as in "Lawrence, I would like to listen to Demis Roussos. Ange would like to listen to Demis Roussos. Tony would like to listen to Demis Roussos. Sue would like to listen to Demis Roussos. So, Lawrence, could we listen to Demis Roussos, please?")
You remember?
Anyhootenanny, sadly it's missing from the archives (07/10/1974).
Fear not, for it is here (as well as being on a DVD about three feet away from me):-
www.youtube.com/watch?v=eQxpjI4imVgI get a wee bit of moaning from some quarters about posting uploads of short duration.
I ken. I see you, I get you. Trouble is, I don't care!
This teensy bit of Grampian is an excerpt of Shammy Dab (starring that nice young man Dougie Donnelly) and is basically the jaunty theme tune with some continuity from the Granite City.
The reason I'm posting this is.... it's the only extant footage of the show.... which was broadcast between 1985 and 1989:-
www.youtube.com/watch?v=aTIBCj2CU-A(since spotting this, I am in touch with the show's producer who may have some VHs 'in the loft'.)
A bit 'completist' this. 42 seconds of missing footage - yes, I know 42.... I suppose one could say, life, the universe and everything counts - of 2/5 of Depeche Mode being interviewed by Tommy Boyd on Saturday Starship. This is the only Starship episode that's missing....
www.youtube.com/watch?v=06F8IVM0RNAA lot of Central News episodes are missing. Like, A LOT! So here's a missing one:-
www.youtube.com/watch?v=HAW2sYNlPzAEurovision 1964. It's missing. Whatever you think of the show, it's a very integral part of TV history. Well, 7-and-a-bit minutes of it has been located and cobbled together from various sources. If you want to watch it, it's here:-
www.youtube.com/watch?v=8p5bsvQD0zgSong for Europe. Remember the Preview Shows? Well, that was done on the continent first.
The Beeb used to send the tapes out to most of the participating companies, and quite often - for reasons best known to the European broadcasters - the songs were dubbed with the records! Well, little me thought surely they must exist in undubbed form? Possibly lying unloved on a shelf at ZDF or something, or maybe hiding underneath Paulo de Carvalho's lapels .
Well, blow me down with Katie Boyle's ballgown if I wasn't right for once. Here for you - both originating from It's Cliff (20/02/1971 and 12/02/1972) are the undubbed performances of Clodagh's Jack in the Box and the New Seekers Beg Steal or Borrow.
www.youtube.com/watch?v=3UuBxjUQtPA... AND
www.youtube.com/watch?v=ByjLOBkSDW4...
Some years ago I told a collector the audio of the Westward TV Fairport Convention was out there.
He mocked me. This is for him:- www.youtube.com/watch?v=ce-rh9U6eAYWiped Smiths? Like THE Smiths?
Well, ok, just the lead singer, a young Stephen Morrissey, being interviewed by the wonderful Mr Paul Coia on BBC's Pebble Mill at One, 21/02/1985:-
www.youtube.com/watch?v=KUK26PufK1IDid I ever tell you the story about the long-lost Jackanory missing audio that wasn't missing at all and it was just hiding in plain sight on youtube and in charity shops all over the land?
Well, if I did or I didn't now is the time to sit down and let Uncle Bernie tell you a story about Kansas and a big storm and a girl named Dorothy and a dog called Toto, from the week beginning the 12th January 1970:-
www.youtube.com/watch?v=0srWD5bPRK0I know a fair few of you will either have this or have heard this, but for those of you who haven't or don't.... here's the audio of four scallywags from Merseyside performing their latest single on People and Places 17/10/1962. They could go far, this lot:
www.youtube.com/watch?v=g9c9kPRpzNIHe may have sounded sad upon the radio and broke a million hearts in mono... but his Saturday Spectacular from 21/06/1958 is missing.
www.youtube.com/watch?v=7EpwjXjMalkThese won't be new to a few people.
Nevertheless here's the wiped audio from the two Beatles appearances on SNATLP 13/10/1963 and 12/01/1964:-
www.youtube.com/watch?v=2eBdUjrkCZ4www.youtube.com/watch?v=yiVIwSBIz1kThey've been on bootleg for a while but.... just in case you hadn't heard them....
More Fabs:-
www.youtube.com/watch?v=Bx7eK8bp4icOk. This isn't missing....probably. It's also been partly shown on TV, but not completely. It's also from a BBC programme, from a Channel 4 show that was made by YTV (now ITV studios).
Confused?
Don't be. This is Richard Whiteley's Gotcha - in full - from Noel's House Party, on the set of Countdown.
www.youtube.com/watch?v=SULRaZi4PXIExplanation:-
wiki.apterous.org/Episode_Gotcha....
More wiped audio. Only a little bit, mind. It's the Small Faces doing 'Tin Soldier' from 'Twice a Fortnight', tx 16/12/1967:-
www.youtube.com/watch?v=e-3JxpJNFOoMy mate Jeremy Williams spotted a 16mm of an ABC Ad Mag called 'Looking Around' from 1958. BRILLIANT find!
We are already in touch with the uploader.
Here it is:-
www.youtube.com/watch?v=UDepXdzI4oMA wee find, this one. It's a BSB News from 04/08/1990. It all helps:-
www.youtube.com/watch?v=5wBq-nntqssI was bemoaning the fact that I couldn't find any missing TOTP recently. Nothing.... not a presenters link, a chart rundown, an opening title or a specially-shot non-artist promo film. Zilch. Everything I'd located - in three different countries - existed. Useless. Then.... this morning....this turned up from 03/08/1967 - it's the TOTP promo film to OO7:-
www.youtube.com/watch?v=Oq10yraIpdcI know this is pretty niche interest - plus it's audio only - but here's some missing believed wiped Jessie Matthews from the Kathy Kirby Show, BBC, tx 16/10/1964:-
www.youtube.com/watch?v=mzhKc1O7sasChain-smoking Irn Bru drinking guy spots 1964 Eurovision rehearsal footage online, but it's safe in an archive in a European Archive so none of you should get excited (and you won't anyway); Sir Alec Doubtless-Whom of the Re-Hirsel not featured. I think he was grouse shooting. :-
www.youtube.com/watch?v=VOMWfvqp1UkA former neighbour of mine did a Sit Up and Listen back in the day (27/11/1982). So, for your perusal and delectation, here is he, with some added youtube continuity on LWT:-
www.youtube.com/watch?v=0E4hU_SPIWwFrom the excellent ADC TV Collection channel comes a missing Play School (although the Newsround Extra may exist). The date of this is tx is 01/07/1983:-
www.youtube.com/watch?v=bJ54SivH6aMAround five or six years ago, the Videotape FTW channel uploaded some very welcome Play Away episodes, many of which were missing.
There was also a 'showreel' upload, which appears to have been a bit overlooked by some folk because it's quite difficult to identify which episodes these extracts come from.
Nonetheless, this was a very welcome upload, and although it might well be a showreel, I'm not terribly sure that it's one for the thesps involved; it might have been for one of the writers.
The extracts seem to all come from the 1978 and 1979 seasons, mostly wiped.
Anyway, if you like Play Away, this is a very good compilation, and some bits are definitely wiped; also there's quite a few actors who went on to other shows and became household names in later years:-
www.youtube.com/watch?v=GeMJ5pO6964This thing I'm posting this morning is a regional Border TV show called That's History from 1991, SE01, E03.
It's a quiz, filmed in a stately home.... about history....
(My, they all deserved their luncheon vouchers for their bait in Harraby after coming up with THAT concept.)
This is one of the episodes that ITV and the BFI don't have (the latter have 2....) and if the Border Film Archive in Stanwix have it (which they might do) they're not letting on, because they never reply to my emails.
I'd like to get my hands on their card index....
Fellow Border TV anoraks should note that this was filmed at Arley Hall, in Northwich, about 90 miles outside of Border's transmission area.
I expect the petrol reduced the budget....
www.youtube.com/watch?v=0mG-_oyIOdAHere's one I missed. It's a partial edition of Coast to Coast, 11/10/91:-
www.youtube.com/watch?v=-EXUzk4XllIAudio; 39 minutes or so of a Secombe and Friends from 24/12/1967. Note; I am not responsible for the uploader's spelling:-
www.youtube.com/watch?v=8acdfmyacMMA clip I missed; this is a slightly incomplete recording of North Sea Gas performing on Thingummyjig from 1982. The two existing episodes (both from off-airs) come from domestic videos (which don't feature NSG), and ergo, it comes from one of the others, which means it must be wiped. (since finding it, it's been sent on to one of the band who didn't have it, which is great news.)
Here you go:-
www.youtube.com/watch?v=rSXkaSahFk4My ex-wife, right, she was a HUGE Take That fan.
(That's not why I'm divorced, but, hey....)
Anyway.... some years ago, she chided me for looking for "old" footage as there '
isn't any money in it', and moreover '
there wouldn't be anything (she'd)
be interested in'.
In fourteen years of doing this I had no idea that this show was missing.
Ergo, I would like to dedicate this discovery to her:-
www.youtube.com/watch?v=H4gfoyz22UMA missing White Heather Club (audio only), as broadcast (networked) 01/01/1963:-
www.youtube.com/watch?v=_edy6ygaLbIgenome.ch.bbc.co.uk/f07c0cab575243c386a7a7e201e490fbNew Faces, audio only, partial, 27/11/1976:-
www.youtube.com/watch?v=3ipjE5RKwIUand.... another New Faces bit -
www.youtube.com/watch?v=OXw4gWaCnEE 10/05/1975 (wiped)
Also - the BBC Scotland Xmas ident from 1983 has been returned to BBC Scotland (on digital file).
The story concerning that would be twice as long as this post, so I will perhaps do that one another day.
I have done a lot more things than this, but....
