Hi all, Perhaps this isn't worthy of a new thread but I couldn't find somewhere else it would happily sit. Mods, if there is please don't hesitate to move it! These photos were recently put online by a Doctor Who fan who said he found them in his Grandmothers photo album. They are not hugely exciting but they are pretty interesting, good quality snaps of the first Dalek props up close. Personally I find Dalek prop history quite interesting and thought some on here might also. i.imgur.com/jGYt9fj.jpg [I'm not embedding due to size] The fan who posted them online asked whether anyone can give some background as to where these snaps are from. To me they look like the real deal, and I'd surmise that this photo was taken just after the completion of the first Dalek story, 'The Daleks'. Verity Lambert instructed two props to be retained in storage (just in case) and the other two were donated to the Dr Barnardo's Home at Stepney Causeway. I offered this as a possibility and the fan said this was quite likely as his Gran came from Bethnal Green - 10 minutes away! As these are from a family photo album I don't think they've been seen by a wide audience before and might be of interest to some people on here.

Banardos is quite possible, but the Dalek casings were loaned out to so many parties and fetes in and around London around that time that it could be anywhere.

What lovely photos! The building looks interesting too. Looks like a party held in a warehouse or courtyard of some sort. Thanks for posting.

I'm trying to work out what the photos are for.Not the sort of images you'd send to the BBC to show how much the kids (?) are enjoying themselves.

Excellent photos-amazing to think that those futuristic-looking props and photos are almost 50 years old....!The design of the Daleks however,is timeless.

I know its the obvious answer, but can he ask his grandmother where the pics are from?

I know its the obvious answer, but can he ask his grandmother where the pics are from? She doesn't know! She just found them in the family photo album, whether the grandparent in question isn't around to ask anymore or can't recall the event I don't know! She was just asking for any ideas, so I suggest Dr Bernardo's, which seems to fit with everything so far. Interesting photos none the less, I think Dalek6388 will be putting them on social media channels soon to see if anyone knows any of the kids in the picture and can shed further light as to the circumstances surrounding the photos! The cool thing is it is an original Dalek prop, Dalek 4 to be precise!

Odd how no-one's paying any attention to the Dalek in the room,to coin a phrase, except the dog and the competent people holding the top half on (?). What can be more interesting than a Dalek? A tableful of jelly-and-ice-cream? Princess Margaret?

If the photo was taken two hours into the party, the novelty had probably worn off. Much though I'd be interested in seeing a genuine BBC Dalek, after a while, there's only so much you can look at.

Perhaps the photos before and after in the photo album would offer clues, if they are of the same series as these Dalek photos.

You can often tell if photos are from the same roll or print series. Look for matching scratches or enlarger dust spots, or matching irregularities in the printed borders.
