I'm raising query again to the status of the pre 1975 CORONATION ST archive.
Previously I mentioned an episode I recall well from 1973; at the end of this one Elsie Tanner got knoecked down by a car and was seen lying in the road with a trickle of blood from the corner of her mouth.
Recall it was a shock episode and disturbed me.
I also recently recalled a sad scene in an episode in which viewers were reminded of the Actor who died that played 'Annie Walker's Husband.
Actress Doris Speed in Character was shown sighing and looking to one side remembering him; and I'd forgotten him but recalled as he was shown in an overlay playback of an old T/R.
The only episode scene I recall specifically I've seen again was Ernie Bishops first scene c. 1968 as a Press photographer.

Every edition of Coronation Street exists, according to the Kaleidoscope ITV Drama Guide. All that is missing are the five-minute contributions to the Christmas 1969 & 1970 All Star Comedy Carnivals.
The episode described in the Kal guide as "Elsie gets hit by a car" - clearly the one you're thinking of - went out on Wednesday 25th July 1973.

Just to add to that, I believe that a handful of episodes only exist as semi-broadcast copies though.

And the third episode ever made (16.12.1960) is missing the last scene and end titles.

I don't know. That's just what the Kal guide says - and in fact on re-reading it might be referring to one particular print, not necessarily the only surviving copy. As I said, I'm not an expert here.

As I said, I'm not an expert here. The print used on the Network DVD release looks complete. Like most on the set it has a "Granada Television International" ident.

Some of the overseas International prints are a little trimmed, but sometimes one print is more complete, dependent on which overseas territory it went to.
Laurence, which eps do you think are a lower format?

Just going on past info given out, Chris! It might have even been someone from Kal making the comment that a handful of eps (I think from about late '67 and also around the time Joanna Lumley was in it - 1973?) seemed to survive only as U-Matic quality recordings or similar. It could have been at the time when accurate facts on holdings were not always available. Good news if it isn't so anyway! Archive info seems to still be updating old versions of itself even now, with supposedly missing items being found to exist after all when the DVD release comes up (happily).

Footage from the Elsie Tanner episode you mentioned was on Youtube fairly recently but has now been removed. I think it was included on one of the Timelife compilation VHS releases which the person had uploaded. These focused on one character or set of characters. These pop up on Ebay quite a bit. At the moment there is a channel on Youtube that has uploaded lots of Granada Pluses special repeats from years prior to 1976 that as yet haven't had a commercial release so you can see episodes 13-15 (eps 1-12 and 16 have been released either on VHS or DVD) from their "From the beginning" special and a number of other odd episodes including one where Elsie is in hospital after the car accident.

Actually the footage is still on youtube. It's part of the Life and Loves and Elsie Tanner VHS that came out as a tribute to Pat Phoenix. There is some specially filmed sequences featuring Emily, Mike and Linda Tanner. In it we hear that Elsie has died.......I think we can safely assume this release isn't canon as we found out that she died only a few years ago when Dennis returned.
