It's official - but not a huge surprise: www.doctorwhonews.net/2013/02/tenth-planet-160213105008.html?m=1Looks like we may have it on our shelves by the end of the year. I hope they learn the lessons from Reign. The animation will be great as long as its directed in a way that's sympathetic to the original surviving episodes.

Good news! Can't wait to see it. Also the DVD range seems sparse after September so it'll probably be out after then.

Good news! The original Cybermen will look brilliant animated. However, for such an iconic regeneration sequence, will the live action footage be mixed with the animation or will that also be animated?I'm sure that will look great as well.

They'd integrate the surviving footage, surely. After all, there is a logical place to cut from the footage to the animation - i.e., the point at which the film gets overexposed and goes completely white, a split-second before PT's face appears.

I imagine they'd animate all of it, like they did for the reprise in Reign. It would be quite cool though if the animation was so beautiful it could seamlessly weave in the existing material. I have a feeling special attention will be paid to the direction after the feedback on Reign.
It's going to look great and I hope we get a few teasers every now and then!

I think it would look very odd if they mixed and matched for a few seconds. I hope that the genuine footage will make it to the DVD this time though!

Great news but I also realized this makes it more unlikely Ice Warriors will be animated. Oh well... Maybe the next go around.

Does this mean its going to be animated, or it has been animated, or it's in the process of being animated? What I want to say is how much of the feedback from the Reign DVDs reception can influence the process? Wouldn't it need to be early on in that work to make any difference? 3 questions in a row there, sorry.

The animation for The Reign of Terror and The Tenth planet were announced well before we even knew when they would be released. We have heard nothing about The Ice Warriors and that DVD is coming out in August.

When Dan Hall said they could afford to animate 2 episodes per release, I am guessing they could do that without taking a big financial loss. Animating more than that and having poor sales would potentially be a problem.

I think it'd make sense if they animated the whole thing, but then have the VHS recon as a special feature. Or they could set it in the way they did with Invasion of the Dinosaurs, where you can select one or the other.

Given that it's the 50th anniversary, surely they'll look to release something special on 23rd November. Perhaps this will be it.

That's very early on. I'd say a November release would be a smart guess.

If they're using the 6 minutes from episode one AND the 24 minutes of Air Lock that means half of it will be 'real' so to speak. Now add some reshot Chumbley footage, some CGI and a bit of creativity with the existing material I think you could have a really strong recon on your hands here. In fact if they really went for it I'd say they could release 'Galaxy 4' on its own and I could have it on my DVD shelf!! That's how excited I am about it!
