I recall the interestingly contrasting reviews which appeared around the time of David Cronenbergs film 'SHIVERS' (1976) on BBC.
The contrast was greatly amusing between FILM 76 and FILM NIGHT. In the former, Barry Norman took a highbrow approach, deeming the film disgusting ('its disgusting!) The film I felt to be symptomatic of the 'shock of the new' punk period. Film night opted for the low brow. It seemed Philip Jenkinson & Tony Bilbow had left the helm. The replacements were a seeming unknown panel in swivel chairs or sitting on the floor. One was a dizzy blonde type who said 'I know I was watching this one through bundles of hair'. Then after the clip 'see what I mean?' smiling hammily.
I'd like to think the two examples exist so this contrast can be demonstrated but don't know anything about the FILM NIGHT holdings? I seem to recall clips demonstrating the FILM 71 series onward is well represented? Does anyone know?
