I know this has been discussed on other threads recently, but as a huge Roxy fan, I was wondering, are the general public ever going to get to see this? Any thoughts welcome... In my mind, it's got to be up there with the John Henshall Bowie find? I know TOTPs repeats are somewhat tricky as far as the BBC are concerned at present, but do you ever think they're likely to screen it?

I'm with you on this one, Steven. I've attached the TOTP slide taken whilst the band were at the studio to promote it.

As long as it's in reasonable condition one would assume it could be shown at anytime, they showed a 1966 clip from The Walker Brothers (not seen since original broadcast) and last Saturday they showed Gene Pitney from a 1964 TOTP, this coming Saturday the BBC are showing a 1966 Rolling Stones clip so don't give up hope on Roxy Music. Amazing it took so long to discover the upcoming Rolling Stones performance, are there still reels of video gathering cobwebs in the BBC vaults?

Clips are more likely than whole shows right now although certain performances take ages before they filter into music compilations, for some reason. Also, programme makers have to be made aware of what's there (by people like us!) to be used. There should be a slot in something or other eventually that can utilise Roxy. Quality is very good too so that's in it's favour.

I hope to be at the BFI to see this next month. It would be great if the two TOTP editions that were shown at the Kaleidoscope event remain uncensored as JS hosted both! In the meantime I've two questions; a) Does anybody know whether the BFI have improved upon the quality since the Kal screening? b) Will there be any new recovered TOTP clips in MBW Music & Entertainment not screened at Kal in June? One last thing, a BFI screening does tend to start the ball rolling regarding recently recovered clips which stirs the BBC into broadcasting at some point. I suspect (as mentioned) 'Street Life' will feature in a TOTP2 compilation, perhaps as soon as this Xmas! It obviously helps if we keep creating a buzz in order for this to happen.

I'd be surprised if the BFI censored anything. I hope they'd be savvy enough to realise it wasn't necessary and treat their audience with the intelligence to make their own decisions on whether to go and watch.

I actually spoke to BFI consultant Dick Fiddy a few weeks ago about the outlandish claim that the Mail's Dan Wooton made about the possibility the BBC were set 'to bin 100s of hours of TOTP' to which we both agreed is the sort of unsubstantiated rubbish the tabloids print for populist effect. TV's general problem is that they feel obliged to kowtow to complaints no matter how small in number. As people are choosing to pay to watch screenings at the BFI, I shouldn't think anything is censored, especially when it was none other than the BFI who recently secured the release of Ken Russell's notorious film The Devils.

It's a paying event, after all, and people are going knowing full well what's on offer. Knowing how these things go though, I wouldn't be surprised at all though if the bill is amended to some degree We'll see on 2nd, I suppose.

Hi all. Noticed this today, very recently posted up on youtube... www.youtube.com/watch?v=EqQVFlXvyLIInteresting for two reasons; one, after waiting ages to catch a glimpse of this rare Roxy gem, here it finally is (well, the first 20 seconds of it anyway - better than nothing I suppose) Second reason, is the link below it... LINK DELETED - LCan anyone shed any light on this one? (I'm particularly intruiged on the mention of Ferry's TOTPs performance of 'Smoke Gets In Your Eyes'!). I seem to remember someone posting something about this a while back, but I can't remember the exact details. My concern is, should the BBC not be trying to do something to safeguard all this stuff? ...or am I being incredibly naive here...?!

Don't the BBC have Street Life back in their archives from the BFI? I'm still confused as to why this hasn't been screened since in its own way it's as iconic as the Bowie Jean Genie footage, and as far as I remember doesn't feature He Who Cannot Be Shown, even though he introduced the show.

The Street Life clip is from the 22/11/73 TOTP edition, which was found to reside at the BFI a couple of years ago (see the related thread on BFI finds) and a copy of the full show now resides with the BBC. Unusually it's a colour telerecording. Parts of this show were screened at a Missing Believed Wiped event at the time it was unearthed.
Those lists that were linked to above (which I've deleted as the person seems to be advertising to trade, which is not allowed on this forum) are simply copies of what has come to be known as the PVL (private video library): a number of home video recordings of missing TOTP material made by a private individual between 1973 and 1975. These are known about and Kaleidoscope screened quite a few clips from this collection at their music event in June.
