Since this post was posted on the site it appears that in fact during the next week or so 4 episodes will be shown starting with the first. It starts at 10.30pm Thursday 16th August ( tomorrow night ).
Dr. Finlay's Casebook - BBC Alba repeats
On the fiftieth anniversary of it's original transmission, 16th August, BBC Alba are repeating the first episode of DR. FINLAY'S CASEBOOK.
With the second episode on the 23rd...
...and at least another one after that. The first series of twelve exists complete, so fingers crossed.

Sky's tv guide info for the episode shown on Christmas eve indicated this episode was 5 of 6. Does this mean we missed the other 4?

There's no reason why they couldn't get through repeating all the surviving episodes in 15 years,at this rate!

The 'Gift of the Magi' episode was repeated by the BBC back in the late 1980's as well.

Sounds like Z-Cars,with a few episodes repeated,but the others in limbo.Mind you,it looks as though Z-Cars might be coming out on DVD soon.(And they had a video released,unlike Finlay).

Following a repeat run on Scottish cable channel BBC ALBA in 2012, Simply Media are releasing the first series of Dr Finlay's Casebook on DVD in March.
The press release doesn't have an exact date of the release other than March, but the 12 episodes will be on three discs:
