These were originally made in 1955, but were transmitted by Associated-Rediffusion 1962-1964. Made a submission to Lostshows.com where 38 episodes of Tension were shown on the dates listed on Lostshows. Currently LS shows that 2 currently exist and 36 are Missing. I located 28 of these 36 at the bfi and the bfi today have sent full details of holdings for them on 35mm which I have forwarded on to Kaleidoscope for their updating of the database and Lostshows later. I think the bfi hold complete episodes for all the following 28, but Kaleidoscope will probably confirm this later, or any proviso, once they've had time to digest all this information..
1. The Eavesdropper 2. The Yellow Robe 3. Set A Murder(er) 4. One Just Man 5. The Better Chance 6. The Serpent Beneath 7. The Imperfect Gentleman 8. Ring Of Greed 9. Gabriel's Choice 10. The Fame And The Fury 11. Weekend Guest 12. The Cruel Test 13. Death On The Boards 14. The Man In Demand 15. The Price Of Vanity...........Muriel Young and Eric Lander 16. The Eight Window 17. The Deception 18.Broken Honeymoon 19. Death Pays No Dividends 20. Blind Man's Bluff 21. The Secret Place 22. Corpse In Room 13 23. The Homing Chinaman.....Sam Kydd 24. Double Pay-Off 25. Lucky Man.........Leslie Phillips 26. Behind The Mask 27. The Rattan Trunk 28. The Fair And The Fallen

John possible congrats! 2 missing episodes of Tension, which are in addition to the 28 located above are listed at the bfi, but not as part of Tension, but as part of the original screenings from 1955, so they are listed as Part Of :The Vise. On Lostshows.com under Tension A-R 1962-1964, is listed as Missing 12/8/63 Blind Man's Bluff ...this is held under this episode title, as Part Of: The Vise 18-1-55 on 35 mm BW Positive C-706438..status pending - material requires inspection to determine preservation or access status. 7/10/63 Double Pay-Off ..this is held under this title episode, as Part Of: The Vise 29-4-55 on 35 mm Duplicating BW Positive Combined 2265 Feet C-706440 Diamond Out is not listed as part of Tension on Lostshows........but at the bfi is under this episode title as Part Of: The Vise 35 mm BW Positive Combined C-715895 status pending - material requires inspection to determine preservation or access status. so I think it's fair to say John, you have located 2 ME of Tension, Blind Man's Bluff and Double Pay-Off as above, it just needs Kaleidoscope to obtain confirmation of holding for these 2 ME held on the formats described above...very well done John..award yourself a CDM..Cadbury's Dairy Milk! Perhaps Chris Perry can tell you if Diamond Out is a ME or an existing one?

Thanks,Simon. There are DVDs with a few episodes of The Vise.I havo to admit that I've been getting this series confused with 'The Veil',which also has a four-letter title starting with 'V',was also a creaky b&w series, and came out-in full this time-on video. Is it possible that these are recent acquisitions by the BFI.Again, that thread suggests that the Danziger family held 35mms of the series...
Added: I think you've got Double Bluff and Blind Man's Ransom already, but I wonder if 'Diamond Out' and 'Diamond Expert' are the same?

Thanks,Simon. There are DVDs with a few episodes of The Vise, while the link above on CTVA states that most were released on video as 'Hollywood Greats' (sic) and were screened on TV in the 90s.I havo to admit that I've been getting this series confused with 'The Veil',which also has a four-letter title starting with 'V'... Is it possible that these are recent acquisitions by the BFI.Again, that thread suggests that the Danziger family held 35mms of the series... Added: I think you've got Double Bluff and Blind Man's Bluff already, but I wonder if 'Diamond Out' and 'Diamond Expert' are the same? oops so I have, they are listed above in the 28 aren't they, that means the bfi have holdings for both these episodes under Tension and The Vise, never mind John, enjoy your your CDM anyway

Keep 'em coming! Here's the proper CTVA link for anyone interested: ctva.biz/UK/Danziger/Vise.htm Both CTVA and Lost Shows have a 'Vise' or whatever called 'The Diamond Expert'.Unionsearch has the BFI holding 'Diamond Out' with the usual 'Vise' blurb.Lost Shows has nothing under 'Diamond Out',but lists as missing Tension: 'The Diamond Expert'.
