Not your fault at all, Chris! It was a great event as far as I'm concerned. The changes to the location of the second screening area were favourably noted by me too as that used to be the room which bore the brunt of the loud chatter - so what else could you do?!

The ""baby-faced"" (not my quote, a girl I was chatting up yesterday said that!) gent in the cap and scarf on the right of the Talbot posse with the inane cheesy grin is myself! Can you put names to the others, Ray? I recognise very few people by sight at these sort of events so it would be good to know more of you for future reference!

Well what a day! I absolutely loved it, especially meeting so many of you genuine knowledgeable friendly enthusiasts.
A HUGE thank you to Chris Perry and all the wonderful Kaleidoscope team, without whom this fantastic event and all the others would never have happened.
Do I have another take of 'The Jean Genie'? Sadly, I think not - unless it is on another tape (U-Matic?) which I have forgotten about. The one we showed was take 3. But there are three other Bowie videos I worked on still to be digitised: 'Boys Keep Swinging', 'DJ' and 'Look Back in Anger'.
And there are many more to come, including Elton John 'Georgia', 'Madness' and 'Song for Guy'; Marshall Haine 'Dancing in the City'; Gibson Brothers 'Cuba'; Foreigner 'Blue Morning and 'Double Vision'; David Essex 'Brave New World' and 'Goodbye First Love'; Annabella 'Fever'; Sigue Sigue Sputnik 'Twenty First Century Boy' and many many more. And then there are the commercials, sit coms and other programmes. There are so many anecdotes about shooting them, I'm sure you'll be sick of hearing me!
Thanx and regards, John.

It was a pleasure to be there John. I reckon Chris Perry needs to fast forward a 'John Henshall Part 2' event as I don't think any of us can wait a whole year for more unburied treasure! The other material sounds great but what most of us are interested in is pre-archived TOTP. I distinctly remember the fish-eye technique used on countless performances through '73 to '76. Do you recall anymore other than 'Jean Genie'? They say 'hoarding' is a form of illness but in your case it's one hell of an exception - JH Pt2? Bring it on!

Well spotted, Thomas, however I didn't shoot 'The Peddlers' on Sez Les but my Fisheye 3 and Sunburst filter (at 0m 21sec) did!
'Sez Les' was directed by David Mallet, with whom I first worked on TOTP. He hired my Telefex camera effects (as many shows did, including TOTP) when he went to Yorkshire Television. I used to travel up to Leeds from London, on my days off from the BBC, to deliver them and have a good time with the YTV crew, many of whom I knew because they'd worked with me at BBC TV Centre.
Most of the remaining 'Sez Les' shows are available on DVD but I did deliver a Sez Les Special (for the Golden Rose of Montreux) on 2-inch VTR to Kaleidoscope.
If Kaleidoscope invite me back it might be a good idea to show our Telefex show reel, so that everyone knows exactly what to look out for.
Love The Peddlars' jumpers by the way! Good number too.
Regards, John.

It would be presumptuous of me just to assume a future invitation Gary.

I don't think it's too presumptuous when it was billed as The John Henshall Years - volume one!

Presumptuous from your perspective, John - Yes. From our perspective the message is loud & clear - Get him back! Emailed Chris Perry today & he's virtually hinted that plans for JH Part 2' will be put into action once Kal have gone through all your 'stash'.

An amazing event - John Henshall and Geoff Christie were both fantastic. Your supporters/followers, too - what a knowledgeable lot! The episodes shown brought back so many memories and showed just how times have changed - when I saw the Pan's People of yesteryear I immediately thought of the Diversity of today - how different they are! The buckets produced a fabulous £283.76 bringing the total raised since 1994 to £16,527.15. The combined March and June amounts (£460.86) is enough to buy a lifejacket for a crew member at one of our lifeboat stations so I will find out which stations still need funding and ask for the money to go to that station for you. We now look forward to seeing you all again in September - hopefully summer will arrive before then! Love to you all. Sue Coombes, RNLI

So it's official then: as Arnie said in 'Terminator', "I'll be backl!" Thank you Chris.
Speaking of pestering, it's I who will be pestering you:
I'm just wading through another 150+ tape 'discoveries'. Last night I watched the first ever 'Countdown' (Carole Vorderman playing just a supporting role) on a 3 hour tape of Channel 4's opening night (2 November 1982)(C4 do have this – shown on their 25th anniversary), but this is complete with continuity (Paul Coia) and ads (first was 1983 Vauxhall Cavalier).
Then 3 hours of first transmission of TV-am (1 February 1983) 'Daybreak' (6-7am), 'Good Morning Britain' (from 7am) with David Frost, Anna Ford, Angela Rippon, Michael Parkinson. John Cleese interview (in pajamas) c/w commercials (first was Walls Meats).
Then Sky Television Network Sky Channel Opening on 5 February 1989 with a documentary introduced by a young Kay Burley, first advert Amstrad Fidelity, then the opening number of 'The Magic of Dolly [Parton]'.
Also the (short lived) 'Satellite Shop' HSTVN (Grattan) 1989 (the first UK shopping channel) featuring Rob Jones - now known as Rob Brydon - as one of the in-vision salespeople. Amazing to see him in this role.
Music: Peter Tosh Live at the Rainbow (VTR 22 June 1979); 'Star Test' - Roland Gift (Fine Young Cannibals)(1989); MTV Europe Party on moving to Air-tv studio (1988) featuring live performances by 'The Toy Shop Boys' (not to be confused with ...) and Sir George Martin (founder of Air Studios). All these lighting by moi.
Only another 140+ tapes to sort. So do you want to book me for Volume 3 ... 4 ... 5 ... 6 ... Chris?!
Regards, John.
