Thats great. I remember the american version, hollywood squares but was unfamiliar with the british version. Were you able to salvage the whole show and how many from this series exists?
As a side question, not familiar with british comedians, were these major stars in the uk?

An episode of Celebrity Squares without Pat Coombs?? I didn't know there were any! She must have had some ironing to do ... "Hello Patti" "Hello Bobby" ... still makes me cringe!

To be fair (since I too thought the show was ghastly) at least all the celebrities on this show WERE celebrities in the sense they were all famous for something legitimate whereas nowadays on "celebrity" shows you sit there wondering who most of them are and why on Earth they're "celebrities"
Pat Coombs? My main memory of this show was that William Rushton was on it seemingly on a permanent basis!

I never liked the remake of hollywood squares.. only the original.
Hope there are some full shows in existance...
As a side note, I noticed blankety blank on youtube which appears to be a remake of the american show "match game". I liked the british version also. Shame this stuff wasnt saved as it would be great for a cable/satellite channel.

it seems similiar to the american show, except the budget was a little higher. For example, the contestants didnt have to keep their own score and it would light up once a celeb answered a question instead of them having to hold up a sign.
Gene Rayburn, who i met once, was the host. He was a member of the original tonight show as well as famous radio comedian. Many great stars were on it.

Was shocked to discover that "Supermarket Sweep" first shown on ITV in 1993 had actually started in the US in 1965 and ran for 2 years before being cancelled, then revived again in 1990!
