it WAS a piece not used for tv that happened on the same day as Children in need, NOT red nose day, the band *might* have thought it was for charity but it wasn't for CIN.

Seems this lost performance was for something called the Blackpool Roadshow in June 1992. The question is - was any footage from this kept? Also, does anyone know if the Blackpool Roadshow was related to the ITV Telethon of that year, or were they unrelated events? This page from Bonehead's wife's scrapbook (on the newly revamped Oasis website) makes me think it might be... any help on this would be much appreciated. cdn.oasisinet.com/wp-content/uploads/2014/01/Scrapbook_BlackpoolPhoto_News_1992-.jpg

I've been doing some research into this and I've cleared up a few things.
It was on the 18th of July, 1992 (this is the date given in Bonehead's fax about the 'telethon' and the date of the ITV Telethon. It was outside Granada Studios in Manchester at an event erroneously called the Telethon 'Roadshow'. The photo from Bonehead's scrapbook shows the band on the same stage as one shown in some ITV footage of the event I've seen. However, the footage only shows other bands.
I'd be very interested to hear from anyone who was at the event or knows where there might be any photos or footage of it. I"m on shanakee at gmail dot com

It was 'The Blackpool Roadshow' who won a contract to supply ITV Telethon, Granada region with its roadshow and a 24 hour entertainment programme. The roadshow was owned by Shirley Jones (Pearson) and Johnnie Doolan, her brother. Johnnie also built recording studio mixer desks with Boneheads brother Martin, and he asked if we could provide a slot for his brothers band 'oasis'. They were cool guys, polite, nice to all the crew, had a lot of fun, and very appreciative of the opportunity!

Hi, what a day that was - I was the engineer, Shirleys brother - (Surprised that day didn't kill us both off or at least persuade us to leave the industry) It was as Shirley said Martin Arthurs, pretty much my mentor at the time, who asked me if there would be any chance of a slot for his brothers band on the Telethon gig. Shirl already had a stacked schedule of artists but said to me 'sure, I'll get the guys slotted in'. The day before the event, we were down at Granada TV's grounds setting up the 2 stages and organising the PA and OB cabling links. I was working away and noticed Martin and a bunch of guys standing over on a corner of Granada's buildings so went over to meet him and the guys. Handshakes and all that mallarky over with, I think the Oasis boys came backstage for a root around, passed us a demo tape and possibly did some basic sound check (bit sketchy here - sorry). Saturday - Now then - This next bit is really sketchy - This was the era when Utah Saints reached no.4 with 'Something Good', the track with the Kate Bush sample in it. They were slotted in to do their bit but decided to get above their station just prior to their scheduled performance. Andy Hatcher was one of our stage managers at this event. From what I can gather, he basically hoofed them off stage (which they were non too chuffed about) I believe Oasis took their place although if Shirl can fish out the schedules we may get a more accurate picture.
The next time I saw them it was on Top of the Pops in October (the same year I believe)
I also believe Martin was potentially one of the band during earlier days but his travelling career at Amek in Manchester took him in a different direction

Recently published a new article on my Oasis site, which may be of interest to people here as it touches upon the topic of lost TV footage. In a new feature on my site Tom Stroud interviewed Mat Whitecross, director of the new Oasis documentary film Supersonic. In part 2 (linked below) Mat talks about the search for rare footage of Oasis and the challenge of sourcing mid-90s material from MTV. Researchers discovered that even Sony's US archive has notable gaps - the production team wanted to use the 16mm rushes for the Wonderwall music video, but these apparently have been lost. Luckily some of the rushes from their other music videos were kept by the director on U-matic videotape, providing a great source of outtakes for the for the film. Chasing Yesterday: Raiding the archives for lost footage“A lot of my favourite scenes didn’t make the cut, which is kinda bizarre but it happens on a lot of films. The scene that maybe even made you want to make the film in the first place doesn’t survive the final cut. Which is crazy but kinda makes sense when you’re in the middle of the storm.” (Mat Whitecross) Read the full story here: www.oasis-recordinginfo.co.uk/?page_id=1952
