I found out today. It wasn't mentioned on Ceefax,it seems, and I didn't read about it on the BBC iplayer. With all the publicity (hah!) wouldn't it have been a great time to generate momentum towards finding more episodes, while the issue was in the public eye (or not)?

Also wish to add my congrats. I'm just amazed they were originally bought by the collector back in the 80s'. How come they were left idling for SO many years? I understand how things like transactions and copyright take a long time to sort, but really... Still, the Galaxy 4 is a real, left-field surprise. And we now have the oldest Troughton episode. Lovely. The film collector didn't know that the episodes were missing from the BBC archive. Thank goodness he didn't throw them away.

I would be pretty happy to see the two recoveries on a stand alone release with a couple of documentaries. It would be money well spent. I'm looking forward to watching these. Reminds me of 92 when tomb came back, a bunch of us in room in complete silence hanging on every frame Happy days. I agree, it would be money well spent It’s such a great feeling that we will soon be able to see more material from both William and Patrick! Once again thanks to Terry, Ralph, Paul and everyone involved!! Fingers crossed some other film collectors might read the news and check their collection for more gems

Nice feature! Two more recent instances (i.e. with the Dr.Who episodes recovery and also John Henshall with the Bowie TOTP find) where the owners simply had no idea these items were rare in any way. It proves that despite all the lost episode initiatives with their associated publicity, it still passes some people by completely! That's very encouraging news for further recoveries (of any kind) though as there must be no end of similar instances of individuals out there who are unaware of the value of something they might have.

Can we expect to see this on DVD? If so, do you have an estimated time of release??

Both episodes will be released, but at this time, no firm decisions have been made as to how or when.

I know it's easy for me to say, having been at the MBW event, but when the episodes do come out, they'll be well worth the wait, with nice restoration and Vidfire applied (which we didn't get on Sunday, obviously)!
On the strength of Underwater Menace 2, i'd be very surprised if that story doesn't go up in people's estimations a bit now too.

You know, listening to the audio of underwater menace I had often thought that perhaps we didnt have the best episode to judge it on. Same with the space pirates really. I always got the impression some of the later episodes might have been more interesting. Either way, Troughton is Troughton Im still buzzing about the recoveries. It will be interesting to get a peak into galaxy 4 eventually as well.

well done everyone involved. best news this year for sf fans!
just wanted to ask if the discovery has opened up anymore leads? and is there any significance in the TUM print being australian in origin?
the most fertile ground for recoveries appears to remain the uk. i still think that contacting film clubs to access members and ex-members (and the families of ex-members) could be productive.
