Greetings Rob, Richard Groothuizen is the Toppop expert, I have given him the link to the forum and hopefully he will join very soon.
He wrote a book about the Toppop TV series which was available in Holland around 1999. I had a copy imported and although it's written in the Dutch language the database in the back is all in English. There are some very good photos too.
Sadly the Toppop archive is in a worse state than I initially thought, a great chuck of the archive was accidently erased due to some misunderstanding during 1975. A large amount of 2" Ampex reels were meant to be 'moved' or 'edited' and then erased, unfortunately they were just 'erased'. Hopefully Richard will be able to give us the whole story shortly. Much of the footage was shot on film especially when the artist/s couldn't come to the Toppop studio in Holland and from what I can ascertain most of these film clips still exist. Sadly many studio performances were wiped. Here is a list so you have some idea of what exists. I should add that there are many clips that exist from original Philips video recordings but obviously they are poor quality, ie tape dropouts etc and are not included in the list below.
1970; 20 only 18 filmed songs (done on location and outside the TV studio) survived, and two songs were filmed in the Toppop studio: Family (test film made in august 1970) and Paranoid by Black Sabbath 1971; 15 only acts filmed on location (the above were mostly , if not all shot on film) 1972: 30 (first surviving video recordings) sep – dec 1972 AMPEX inserts in color 1973; 34 selected footage on AMPEX + films were saved from here on 1974; 120 1975; 134 due to miscommunication in august 1975 most of all sep 1973-jul 1975 AMPEX masters were wiped before tapes were compiled. 1976: 232 1977; 196 1978; 216 1979: 157 1980; 155 1981; 186 1982: 307. Each Toppop episode from sep 1981 – jun 1988 exists

I think we could be more careful who we give youtube links to. The guy who posted 'Moonshine Sally ' by Mud has posted close to 600 videos, the majority very rare videos from TopPop and now extremely rare VHS copies of wiped performances. Some of these fantastic clips are in amazing quality and have never been seen for more than 30 years. Now the channel has vanished. A real treasure trove down the pan. Such a shame.

I wasn't hinting to trade. I downloaded and saved the clips I wanted too. I'm more dissapointed we won't get to see any more now as I was really enjoying the things that were being uploaded.

Should we PM these links? it would be a shame to loose a source of materiel but it would also be wrong to overburden admins with excess information.

I don't think PM the links is the answer because that would deprive many on this forum of seeing lost/recovered material, and that's what this forum is all about. After all, were not sure that the account has dissappered because of this forum, are we?.
Youtube has been a valuable source over the last few years for discovering lost material and should be encouraged by the corporates, and not viewed as a pirating site as some corporations do.
