Does anyone know if the new DVD releases of 1984 and THE COMPLETE QUATERMASS will be restored or even VIDfired in any way? Hopefully they'll be better quality than the old PIT, but it would be interesting if any extra work has been done. I can't seem to find this info anywhere.

Complete Quatermass? Have the missing four episodes somehow been recovered?

"Complete" in the sense that it utilises everything that the BBC has in the archive (and indeed, everything that was telerecorded!).
And yes, it will all be fully restored.

That's where they take television shows converted to film , and re-create the original video, if I remember correctly. What actually does survive of Quartermass, anyway? I've only seen (and vaguely remember) the film adaptation of Quartermass and the Pit.

Here's what exists...
The Quatermass Experiment - Eps 1 & 2, 35mm Mechau film recordings with variable density optical soundtracks.
Quatermass II - Eps 1 - 6, 35mm suppressed field FR's (except ep 3, 35mm Moye-Mechau FR) with variable area optical soundtracks. Models sequences for episode 6 on 35mm camera negative.
Quatermass and the Pit - Eps 1 - 6, 35mm stored field FR with variable area optical soundtracks. Also 35mm two-part compilation version, with many original 35mm film sequences cut back into the prints, and 16mm magnetic soundtracks (derived from original 35mm episode soundtracks which no longer exist).

Steve Am I to assume, then that QII and QatP are complete?

Yes, both Q2 and QatP are complete. QE is missing its last four episodes, which were never recorded.

I hadn't seen it mentioned anywhere that there were four episodes missing from the DVD release and I'd only read everywhere it was "complete". Do you know if the blurb will mention the fact that four episodes are not known to exist and thus aren't included? I know the set hasn't been released yet, but the pre-order pages are somewhat mis-leading (not that any of us will mind either way).

...but can anyone here tell me if Pit is being Vidfired for the DVD? Simple question that everyone who would be likely to know seems to avoid answering!

Yes, Pit is vidFIREd.
And on 1984, may I suggest that though lovingly restored, you don't get your hopes up for the DVD.
