Pity only 2 episodes were saved as it looked good Julian Glover who played Richard The Lionheart in this is always good to watch. Be grateful that two episodes survive when so many stories aren't represented at all. At the risk of setting off the List Brigade, I'd happily swap both episodes of this story for episodes of Fury from the Deep, Power of the Daleks or Marco Polo.

I'm pretty sure only The Wheel of Fortune was "saved" The Lion was returned from New Zealand (where it was never actually shown on TV I think) in 1999. And I'm inclined to agree with you there Rob.

On a less "swappy" mode, would it be possible for the RT to improve the picture quality of "The Lion"? It's quite ghastly in some places....

I doubt they could do much more -- the film print that was recovered is in dreadful condition - it's actually got a physical crease down the center of it for a large part of the episode (Bruce Grenville, who originally located the episode told me it was like that when he got it - sounds like some previous owner didn't know how to handle film prints) . They've done a lot to repair the damage, but there's only so much they can do... The alternative is not to have the episode at all, so we have to take what we can get...

I think I'd rather have it in the condition it's in than not at all! I remember the day I got that issue of DWM back in 99 from my local comic shop, and nearly made a mess in my pants when I saw "Missing Episode Found!" on the cover. I Actually bought the VHS box set the day my first son was born in 2000 !!
