Hello all, Just a quick question to satisfy my curiosity. No other motive for it, whatsoever. Obviously, the third episode of Planet of the Daleks was colourised for the DVD release. What I'm wondering is whether the colour version is still considered to be a missing episode, since what exists in colour now wasn't, per se, the original? In advance, thank you!

I'd say it should be thought of in the same way as the NTSC-only episodes - in an ideal world, a PAL tape would turn up to upgrade it, but in the meantime, a perfectly serviceable colour copy exists. Not missing, but not quite perfect.

Not missing, but not quite perfect. Some of us know that Episode 3 ain't an original 625 line PAL Quad tape. However, how many people - even the pros - could watch the story the whole way through and notice any difference ? When I watched Sea Devils I considered that some episodes didn't have quite the picture quality I anticipated - the wonders of the www quickly told me that these were NTSC (Never Twice the Same Colour) tapes that had been through Reverse Standards Conversion (RSC). I could tell which episodes were, or weren't, 625 line PAL Quad originals. However, I recently got Peladon Tales and had nothing but praise for Curse. Those episodes were NTSC tapes via RSC - however the Digital Noise Reduction had improved and I thought that the picture quality was brilliant AFAIC PoD 3 is as good as a 625 line PAL Quad original

Quick question was it ever confirmed what happened to the PAL copy of Part 3 that was sent to Dubai? I know they returned 4 - 6 in 1991. I assume they junked it. According to BroaDWcast they were the only country to buy this episode in PAL. gallifreybase.com/w/index.php/United_Arab_Emirates

Using the logic of "Is is still missing?", then nearly all the existing Hartnell and Troughton episodes could still be considered "missing" as they don't exist on the original videotape. The restoration work of Pertwee material done by the RT is superb. Yes, it's not the original videotape, but there are some other tv shows from the earl 70's whose original videotapes DO survive, and those don't look as good as some non-original Pertwees.

Hi all, I loved the restoration work that was done on POTD 3. Its not perfect but as commented if you didn't know any better.... One thing I have noticed (across the range) is that viewing these on a modern digital set (the bigger the screen the more noticeable it gets) is in parts the pictures seem grainy, the filmed inserts, particularly the ones sourced from original camera negatives etc look brilliant on the other hand!! When viewed on an old set looks better than it ever did. I've got an idea why this is but can anybody please explain this in a manner the "rest" of us can understand? I've also noticed that the rolling credits on the new series DVD's and BD discs seem to jump a fair bit-but not all the time.
