I'm not sure about The Sweet (although I think some have been included on DVD releases) but "T.Rex On TV" is recommended as it contains about five TOTP appearances (all sourced from German Disco editions) as well as quite a few other interesting TV items and extras.

Glitz, Blitz and Hitz (I think that's the correct title) by the Sweet has some excerpts of TOTP performances. It's a good start and reasonably priced. I believe there are 'collectors market' DVDs out there.

The T Rex DVD is good although the audio is nothing to write home about, as the TOTP performances are lip synced an overdub wouldn't of gone amiss. Perhaps they should of left it to the Dutch (BR) and got the job done properly. The menu's tricky as well. www.youtube.com/watch?v=ZLKfz0ieOuc

I compiled T.Rex on TV. The audio for the TOTP performances was intentionally left alone as the TOTPs are actually sonically different from the records - T.Rex supplied different mixes to the BBC and Marc often sang a live vocal. I agree that the menus are really annoying though! The other T.Rex DVD to look out for is Born to Boogie (although this does not contain TV performances other than the 1967 Tyrannosaurus Rex debut). The only documentary worth having is "The Final Word". I must declare an interest here, as I worked on all three.

The fact that the T Rex TOTP performances are exactly as broadcast (albeit Disco, rather than directly TOTP due to wiping) are preferable to overdub. What you're seeing is what the viewer did in the 70's. Perfect. Plus T Rex anoraks like me like the sonically different versions, minor point though that is. T Rex on TV is the best compilation of Bolan, bar NONE.

I would like to give a BIG thank you here Martin.Great work all around here on these releases.Really like keeping the alt-BBC mixes in context to the material being displayed.Wanting to see the mentioned Tyrannosaurus Rex TV debut, bet is really neat in regards.Think we are all agreed then on T.Rex on TV being the best Bolan compilation out there!
Thanks Again Martin!!!!
Keep On Groovin Cats!!!

Back in about 1985 when I was working in VT Cataloguing at Television Centre I gave John & Shan Bramley (remember them,Martin?? The used to run the 'Official Marc Bolan Fan Club') the two inch tape number (I can still remember it ; 66639) for Marc's appearance on 'Cilla'. They duetted on 'Life's A Gas' and Marc performed one other song, can't remember which one now. It was used in a very early vhs release of T.Rex stuff. I THINK I'm right in saying I received a complimentary copy of the tape.

Glitz Blitz & Hits - Sweet. (dvd)..... Has various clips including Wig Wam Bam from totp , None of the clips are 'full' however and the source for some of them is from a old VHS recording by the look of them, especially Wig Wam Bam (complete with some tracking issues).

The old Glam Rock VHS had Sweet TOTP's on, but they are out of print and VHS. Memory serves, Action and Fox on the Run were on Volume 2.

It would of been nice to see Wig Wam Bam on the recently released 'ZDF 40 jahre Disco' DVD box set along with some of the other TOTP clips the BBC have wiped. www.youtube.com/watch?v=Qp_-L1wVVZA

Some of the mountain spectaculars were released on DVD though can't recall under what new title.
There seems to be one of theirs for 'Alexander Graham Bell'. certainly the Mountain stuff is good for representing the lesser seen hits. And their one for 'Poppa Joe' on the beach was in general use on pop shows like 'Lift off' at the time.
