Hi, I just recognised, that the next TOTP is not the BBC Four scheduled edition of 27/05/1976, hosted by Jimmy Savile, but the edition of 03/06/1976, hosted by Tony Blackburn (as listed correctly on Radio Times Online) and now I'm feeling a little confused. What has happened to Jimmy Savile's show? Here's how it's scheduled on BBC Four: www.bbc.co.uk/programmes/b011m9xwand here is the same show as it is listed on Radio Times: www.radiotimes.com/ListingsServlet?event=10&channelId=47&programmeId=189831937&jspLocation=/jsp/prog_details_fullpage.jspThe next upcomming show should be this one: 27th May 1976 Jimmy Savile
HEAVY METAL KIDS – She’s No Angel J.J. BARRIE – No Charge MELBA MOORE – This Is It (Ruby Flipper) GLADYS KNIGHT & THE PIPS – Midnight Train To Georgia THE WURZELS – Combine Harvester ARCHIE BELL & THE DRELLS – Soul City Walk (promo) MAC & KATIE KISSOON – The Two Of Us DAVID BOWIE – T.V.C.15 (Ruby Flipper) THE BELLAMY BROTHERS – Let Your Love Flow (promo) THE REAL THING – You To Me Are Everything ABBA – Fernando (promo) MISTURA – The Flasher (titles)Instead, they seem to be broadcasting this one: 3rd June 1976 Tony Blackburn
OUR KID – You Just Might See Me Cry THE G. BAND – Don’t Make Promises You Can’t Keep NEW EDITION – Sunshine Saturday CLIFF RICHARD – Devil Woman MUD – Shake It Down THIN LIZZY – The Boys Are Back In Town (promo) GALLAGHER & LYLE – Heart On My Sleeve (Ruby Flipper) DOLLY PARTON – Jolene (promo) THE ROLLING STONES – Fool To Cry (promo) J.J. It seems even the BBC is confused about which show is to come next week. In their online programme schedule they say "27/05/1976" but then they list the content as "With New Edition, JJ Barrie, Cliff Richard, Mud, Thin Lizzy and the Rolling Stones" which would of course be 03/06/1976. www.bbc.co.uk/bbcfour/programmes/schedules/2011/06/02My guess is they will show 27/05/1976, and hopefully 03/06/1976 the following week, but we'll have to wait until Thursday to be sure.... Anyway, the good news is they seem to finally repeat 03/06/1976 which hasn't been shown for the past 35 years in its full glory.

The pre-schedules for the next 4 weeks don't have 27th May 76 in them.
7:30pm Thursday June 2nd - June 3rd 1976 (Tony Blackburn) 7:30pm Thursday June 9th - "The Sky At Night" 7:30pm Thursday June 16th -"BBC Cardiff Singer of the World 2011", but there is a totp at 01:15am later that following morning.
This sort of confusion occured when einsfestival were showing totp. They had 03/06/1976 scheduled but didn't show it in the end, thus this gave more creedence to the possibilty that it no longer existed. We shall see next thursday for sure.

I don't know, if Eins Festival ever had TOTP from 03/06/1976 on schedule. One Thing I know for sure is, that they bought 54 episodes in all from the BBC, only 49 of which were broadcast. One of the shows that was scheduled but withdrawn at the last minute, was TOTP from 28/08/1975 because the tape that was sent to Eins Festival was "damaged". For everyone who is interested in which shows were planned, and/or scheduled at least for broadcast/re-broadcast at which date, including the above mentioned show that was damaged, I have attached a list that I got directly from the archive of Eins Festival (Sorry that it is in German only, but I think you can read and understand it anyway!). Regards, Oliver. Attachments:

Yeh I'm just looking for when its billed as some of them appear to be being repeated up to four times. So its not always clear whether we are seeing a newly repeated edition or not. At least plenty of chances to record them if you miss them though.

Doesn't that 49 include the "damaged" episode that wasn't shown? I have 48 episodes from einsfestival, though I may well have missed one or more. But the document you've attached only lists those 48 episodes plus the damaged one. Even though the document lists the episodes as being "nn/49", the "nn" appears to be the sequencial episode number as supplied by the BBC, so the last episode is "54/49". The missing numbers are 3, 4, 8, 14, and 21 (with 27 being the damaged tape). My guess is those are: 26/02/1970, 25/02/1971, 16/11/1972, 20/12/1973, and 27/12/1974. But that's just a guess. However it doesn't look like einsfestival were given 03/06/1976. The first two (3 & 4) were 15/10/1970 and 14/01/1971. They dropped those after they found out the shows were partially mute and thus considered 'unbroadcastable'. No. 8 was indeed 16/11/1972. I can't recall though that 03/06/1976 was ever scheduled. The story goes that the reason for listing 10/06/1976 as episode 35 was that the tape they had received from the BBC had been mislabelled 24/06/1976, and this date was given in EinsFestival's schedule before the show was aired. Everyone was surprised that it actually turned out to be 10/06/1976! One thing I never understood was why they cancelled 27/12/1974.

Hello Dave, you are absolutely right. Eins Fesival have broadcast exactly 48 episodes of TOTP, excluding (!) the damaged edition of 28/08/1975. I've listed every broadcasted episode in order of it's original BBC broadcasting date (not the original Eins Festival order!): Attachments:

Why in 2011 are these shows still being supplied as tapes, shouldn't they have all been remastered to disc, hard drives, memory sticks or some other digital form ? Don't tell me they actually still use the original tapes, isn't this dangerous ?

and surely if a tape was damaged the BBC could have just supplied them with another copy. How much of whats stated here is fact and how much is assumption?

What damaged episode of 28/08/1975?
The duplicate copy or the original in the archive?

I strongly hope it will be a duplicated show, I can't imagine that the BBC would simply "rent out" an original library tape of a show to any other european tv station!
When I spoke to Mr. Diedrichs of Eins fesival on the phone in 2009, he told me that the episodes they got would be kept for a while for a possible re-broadcast (which they did in 2010/2011), after that they would be returned to the BBC or erased as they were not of any use for them to be archived.
EF won't erase an original tape of a show, don't you think?
I also recollect he said that the editions that weren't shown the first time around on EF would not be repeated in a re-broadcast, so no hope for the unbroadcast 1970/71 shows that were substituted with two shows from 1973.

I have a horrible feeling this is true. When The Ramones issued their fantastic 'It's Alive 1974-1996' DVD all their TV appearance were on there, every BBC performance bar one track from Whistle Test in 1985. A while after this release, it was broadcast in pristeen quality on ABC TV in Australia. In the Ramones booklet, it says Note: Though it was aired, the BBC could not locate 'Mamas Boy' in their archive.
Maybe because they'd packed it up to send to Australia?

It look like 27/05/76 will be shown according to this link below. I'm relieved, as in my opinion this edition is far better than 03/06/76! www.bbc.co.uk/programmes/b011m9xw
