I don't think that they were, also there has been a bad copy of the Cat Stevens performance in colour of this show somewhere in this world. The source claimed to have been working for the austrian television station ORF during the 70's and that he had lend some Beat-Club copies of Radio Bremen during this time for a youth programme about the 60's, including the coloured version of the 1967 show from the "Funkausstellung Berlin". As he hasn't contacted me again, I still don't know, if this story is true.

Wasn't this discussed some years ago on here?. And if i remember i think the concensus was that the Small Faces clips had been 'colourized'. Or perhaps i'm mistaken Yes, it was discussed. Personally speaking, as i've only ever seen very poor copies, it's hard to tell if they've been colourised or not. However, Bob reckons that good quality copies are circulating so who knows? I wonder what happened to the master of that colour edition after transmission in 1967 and why the archive only now has a b/w copy?

I wonder what happened to the master of that colour edition after transmission in 1967 and why the archive only now has a b/w copy? According to the Beat-Club book mentioned above, that edition was the first in colour. Also, here are a couple of pictures from the studio of that edition: steve-p.org/bcsetup1.jpgsteve-p.org/bcsetup2.jpg(Compare Uschi's dress with your copies on tape if you don't think it's the same edition! That's Keith West about to do "Teenage Opera" in the second one.) Those look like colour cameras to me. Maybe somebody can identify the model? (Is that a red/green/blue type of logo on the side?) Note that they also have NDR on the side (BC was made by Radio Bremen) possibly indicating they have been brought over from NDR for the occasion. Here are some grabs from the Small Faces performance mentioned: steve-p.org/Small1.jpgsteve-p.org/Small2.jpgsteve-p.org/Small3.jpgsteve-p.org/Small4.jpgI'm pretty sure it's all genuine colour. It would be a hell of a coincidence if the first colour Beatclub just happened to be the only b/w one to have clip/s coloured by computer!

Hello Steve, the cameras were indeed in colour (PAL format) and they were built by Philips in the Netherlands. Also the station logo of NDR television was styled kind of an antenna (a new variation of it is still in use today), against a three colour bar of red, green and blue. Another variation of the colour bars without the antenna was used for the then joint venture produced 3rd programme chain of Norddeutscher Rundfunk (NDR), Radio Bremen (RB) and West Berlin (Sender Freies Berlin, SFB). Maybe you don't remember it anymore, but I wrote about this topic more than a year ago in this thread: missingepisodes.proboards.com/index.cgi?board=totp&action=display&thread=4673&page=4Regards, Oliver.
