Just wanted to draw your attention to the Time Life DVD series "The Best Of Soul Train". While it contains, naturally, a lot of performances of songs that were just US hits, it does also feature many clips of UK hits that are hard to find elsewhere. Some of the highlights include: That Lady (Part 1) - The Isley Brothers Summer Breeze (Part 1) - The Isley Brothers If You Don't Know Me by Now - Harold Melvin and the Blue Notes You'll Never Find Another Love Like Mine - Lou Rawls Lookin' through the Windows - The Jackson 5 Betcha by Golly, Wow - The Stylistics Could It Be I'm Falling in Love - Spinners Have You Seen Her - The Chi-Lites War - Edwin Starr Me and Mrs. Jones - Billy Paul Papa Was a Rollin' Stone - The Temptations Wake Up Everybody (Part 1) - Harold Melvin and the Blue Notes Band of Gold - Freda Payne On Amazon it says the DVDs are Region 1 only. However the DVDs I ordered are "All Regions", so no trouble playing them with a European DVD player. Find the complete track list here: www.tvshowsondvd.com/news/Soul-Train-Press-Release/13385

The Soul Train box set has been out sometime Andreas, released in the inferior NTSC (720x480) format still the footage has been archived well. Among the best performances are Johnny Nash-I Can See Clearly Now//Freda Payne-Band Of Gold//The Stylistics-You Make Me Feel Brand New//Billy Paul-Me & Ms Jones & The Delfonics - (Didn't I) blow Your Mind This Time. The audio is a bit ropey, considering the show was lip synced some overdubbing wouldn't of gone amiss.www.youtube.com/watch?v=e8NKnnzwjAs

It may have been out for some time in the US, but the German shop where I bought it as well as amazon.co.uk say the release date for the 9 DVD box was 15 February 2011. Maybe it was rereleased. Regarding overdubbing, that seems to be your favourite topic But as you surely noticed, not all of the performances are lip-synced. A good deal is performed live. Besides, it's one thing to release a clip compilation (like "TopPop") and overdub the single clips, but another to release large parts of an original show including interviews and overdub just some of the musical performances.

I have this complete set and many performances are mimed but some are indeed live. Marvin Gaye even mentions how embarrassed he was with his bad miming. Not sure how they were shown originally but I'm pretty sure they haven't overdubbed live vocals with recorded songs.
Regarding NTSC, the discs are all NTSC but look superb, the best I've ever seen 'Soul Train' look. The shows would originally have been made in NTSC so that's the best we'll ever see them surely? A PAL release wouldn't highten the quality would it? I just wished they'd included the Bowie performances.
