www.youtube.com/watch?v=8e5H8580amAThis is certainly a film dating from the 1930's, probably the late 30's. It purports to be a BBC film, but I reckon it to be a film about the BBC! Why would there be a BBFC certificate otherwise. You'll have to forgive my scanty information and lack of insight. I am chronically multi-tasking and haven't even heard the audio. And knowledge on this please let me know.

Hi Ray, You are correct in assuming they are films about the BBC. There were a series of films, entitled 'BBC Musicals', made around 1935/36, which served as 'adverts' for the BBC and were shown in cinemas. If I remember correctly, I think they were made by Horace Shepherd. They generally started with a montage of Broadcasting House and Radio Times covers and you were then subjected to various orchestral 'Musical' numbers. They generally seem to be available in various lengths, as I have several of them and some are 'cutdowns' and some original length. Aside from the BBC content (filmed in Broadcasting House), they are not and never were BBC copyright. however I don't know whether they were ever transmitted on the fledgling TV service before the War. Therefore I suppose not really missing as such. hope that helps, Davidx

Thank you David.
Interesting to see and even if not missing, good to know about.
