I am delighted to announce a new discovery of a previously thought as wiped TOTP clip:- 'the Ballad of Bonnie and Clyde' by Georgie Fame from TOTP 21/12/1967 - IN BROADCAST QUALITY!
This was discovered by Forum member Keith Read. He bought it to my attention in a thread on this Forum, shown a part of the Austrian TV pop show Pop Scope, which in 1968 was called Go Go Scope:-
""....Go Go Scope - the most interesting clip is Georgie Fame's January 1968 "Bonnie & Clyde". George is filmed in front of a black painted board in gangster outfit complete with 1920's machine gun. To his right there's a crowd dancing in a studio behind which is ...... a large above stage mounted back projection screen showing psychedellic moving shapes of the type used on TOTPs at the time! I see that Georgie Fame did indeed appear on TOTPs in January 1968 performing that song which at the least is coincidental so this is a "possible missing 1968 TOTPs clip" Some very effective stroboscopic filming effects were used which time to the gun fire at the end of the track - quite a find!""
From the information and visuals that Keith had, I contacted Keith Badman and he has confirmed that it is a missing TOTP clip that Keith Read had found.
The clip, I have ascertained is actually from 21/12/67, as opposed to 1968. The clip WAS shown on TOTP and Austrian TV in 1968, but was only performed live ONCE on TOTP on this episode:-
""TOP OF THE POPS 21/12/67 (7.30pm - 8.00pm) Introduced by Jimmy Savile & Keith Skues Chris Farlowe - Handbags & gladrags (Studio) Gene Pitney - Something’s gotten hold of my heart (Studio) Rpt Georgie Fame - Ballad of Bonnie & Clyde (Studio) Simon Dupree & The Big Sound - Kites (Studio) Four Tops - Walk away Renee (Promo) Tom Jones - I’m coming home (Studio) Val Doonican - If the whole world stopped loving (Studio) Beatles - Hello goodbye (NEMS stills footage)"" (details from Pete Seaton's excellent Poptastic site)
On behalf of all TOTP collectors I would like to thank Keith Read for finding this clip and all his help, and also to Keith Badman for his knowledge.

If this is indeed from TOTP, I hope someone such as Kal can negotiate the return of a copy to the BBC archives. Potentially good news though, Ray.
Can someone post a few stills?

That's great news that it turned out to be from totp after all. Well done Ray & Keith for spotting that one.
any screen grabs?
If 'go go scope' did have some sort of arrangement with the BBC, how many more clips could there be in that archive?. Does anyone have an episode guide?

I think it was established in another thread that the programme was a one-off. It would be good if it was a series though...

There could be other things in that archive, potentially.
The BBC were informed about this clip's existence 5 minutes before I started the thread on the board, as were Kal!
There is a thread (Popscope) from this month, that has a lot of info about the show.

Laurence, Go Go Scope became Popscope, so there may be other things in the archive that are missing, whether from TOTP or more likely promo films.... it's possible.

I see. So, as you say, there may be more! What we need for starters is an episode guide and a point of contact for the archive to be contacted by Kal or similar.

We'll work on that. I think a point of contact can be established, because if you look at the thread, the clip was going to come out on DVD in the summer of this year, and still exists in an archive in Austria!

Yes. As I read it in the other thread though, the Go Go Scope programme from 1968 was a one-off. This could be wrong though. When did it become Pop Scope then? It suddenly seems to start around mid '70s, some years after the other programme.

Yes but these start at 1975. Were there any earlier, between 1968 and 1974? I can't see any link betweek Go Go Scope and this show though, despite the title. It would be interesting to see what acts were in earlier editions (if there were any) as they would contain potentially more missing TOTP.
It's amazing though that in this age of the internet, no one has the full info on this series (or even of it's status as a home for possible TOTP clips). Amazing but - at the same time - encouraging as regards what other shows may similarly be sitting in a vault waiting to be discovered!

Simon Dupree & The Big Sound - Kites (Studio) would be my favourite from this episode because it's so rare, so unfortunate they didn't perform this track on Beat Club even though they went to the Bremen studios in the late '60s.

There is a live version existing in Beat Beat Beat though, fortunately. I'd like to see this series get a complete box set release eventually.

Until this summer it seemed that GoGo Scope was just a one off show repeat transmitted on two European networks in 1991, one Dutch one German (I Sat) Copies existed in VHS quality only which probably is where the youtube Paper Dolls clip on the Popscope thread originates.
However in August 2010 I received two DVD's containing the known edition and two new discoveries in full DVD quality all from 1968 (one colourised). Further enquiries need to be made with our German and Austrian friends on this forum who may have access to additional archive information.
I will need to study carefully the id free recordings for other items however I can say the title of the second Love Affair track is the B side to the featured "Everlasting Love" entitled "Gone Are The Songs Of Our Lives" plus a Buckinghams 1967 promo. One of the other editions feature seveal Equals promo's of singles which were not major hits including an item filmed on a UK seaside pier. I will need to cross reference using my CD collection for titles or the smart phone application called "Shazam" which is very useful indeed.
I will post as complete track details as I can at a later time.
A quick note regarding Simon Dupree and The Big Sound - some live concert footage exists of "Daytime Nightime" and "Reservations" in a BBC Man Alive documentary from 1967 which I believe from memory is called "The Swingers" This definately exists.
Regards Keith
