This is a bit of a non-story, actually.
There has been a lot of rubbish written and spoken over the past few years about "lost" Apollo 11 moonwalk footage. The fact is that none was lost! The original transmissions were recorded and kept, but the magnetic data tapes - which today would yield a slightly better image, after processing with modern equipment - were indeed misplaced, and probably erased.
Some people seem to have the idea that this historic event was not fully preserved on video tape.
Now, TV coverage by - for example - the BBC and ITV? That's a different matter.
Colin.

I have the utmost respect for John Sarkissian. I have no respect for the author of the dysfunctional wire story.

I've got nothing new to report on this, but there is an interesting NASA report on the whole thing here: www.nasa.gov/news/reports/index.htmlIt's called 'The Apollo 11 Telemetry Data Recordings: A Final Report', (second one down on the list).

Really, really interesting article. I so hope they do find the tapes eventually, they're probably in a Skylab box somewhere.... I would have loved to have been involved in the search for them, I find that sort of thing fascinating. That's probably why I used to love just walking down the rows and rows of old 2" videotapes and 16mm film cans while at Windmill Road when I worked for the BBC.
