Info please on missing Top of The Pops

Hi i have collecting lots of top of the pops shows. I was an avid viewer in the 70s when i was a child every week.

It is devastating that so many have dissapeared.
however i do think great efforts are made on here to locate stuff and other tv shows of course.

My wish list for discoveries for top of the pops are any Beatles clips.
All the young dudes mott the hoople with david bowie.
The laughing gnome Video( i remeber watching this and it was a promo film as Bowie looked young in it).
Slade Squeeze me Pleeze Me- First single i bought.
Rumoured to exist but not confirmed even though someone here said a black and white print from germany was recovered.
Slade take me back Ome on totp.
Gary Glitter Leader of the gang- The one where he rides in on a chopper bike superb clip.
Mud- Crazy and Hypnosis.
Dave clark five- good old RocknRoll.
The Sweet Ballroom Blitz Studio performance.
Showaddywaddy Hey Rocknroll.
Hello- Tell Him
Glitter Band- Angel face.
Elton John- Crocodile Rock.
T Rex Ride a White Swan

Sadly, most of those clips you list are apparently missing believed wiped. I can remember seeing some of them myself at the time too so i'd be pleased to be proved wrong!

Thank you for the info guys. Does that guy at the pvl want £20,000 for one episode of top of the pops 500th or for his complete collection? surely it would make sense for him to get it diditallly transferred by Kaidescope or BBC. I would do this if i had one of these episodes or anything missing.
Obviously no one will pay 20 grand so what is the collection just sitting there detiorating. Someone said on here that an edition with mud hypnosis exists any info on this?
Has anyone actually seen this stuff to prove that he has it?

I Believe that the collection has been verified as existing (can't remember offhand by who though).
He wants £20,000 for the entire collection. He has said that he was not willing to split up the collection and seems reluctant to have it transferred to dvd for some reason. Perhaps someone else on here might be able to shed some more light on it.

We did attempt to get a consortium together on here to buy the collection last year, but it came to nothing. There were 'legal' issues and logistical problems with it. Can't remember how many we had but it was short of the number needed. The logistical problems were huge. It would require mutiple DVD copies of every tape that was in the collection.

HI Paul so lots of people got together to buy the collection and there was legal problems.
So what you need is one or two people to stump up the money then say to the guy .. right heres 20 grand thanks for the tapes.. goodbye.then you can get them remasterd etc.
What legal problems seems straight forward as i said.
Someone said the Who own a copy of the 500th and david Bowie and The sweet members had video recorders then so one of them must have recorded it surely.has anyone tried to contact any of these people to find out?

As far as Showaddywaddy's "Hey Rock And Roll" goes it was apparantly used in some sort of test transmission by the BBC in the late 80s. Sadly this I cannot verify, but am desperate to see as I run the Yahoo Group for the band. Attached is their rehearsal for the track on the show.

I spoke at length to the owner of the PVL a few years ago and he is fine with genuinely interested parties visiting and test-viewing tapes of choice. The collection is vast, but would come with the hardware. The older tapes require a certain expertise and knowledge. I may well be in a position to purchase said library at some point soon, but the logistics and vastness of the project put me off a little. It is not a "solo" project, it's something that would have to be done in conjunction with the likes of Kaleidoscope for the transferring and storage etc

Yes i think that kal could hepl immensely on this one as they do a great job. However stumping up the cash is also an issue here.Puzzles me how he got the stuff in the first place.
All this was supposed to be WIPED! i reckon that was what was put down in the bbc archives but tv stuff was privately sold any ideas anyone?
By the way chris love the clip of showaddywaddy on crackerjack with sweet Music.Superb! keep up the good work mate.

That would be great news Chris if you could pull this off, and put this long story to bed, wish you all the luck in achieving this, and hope Kaleidoscope can help you out.

Kaleidoscope have attempted to get involved with PVL but talks broke down, I can't tell you any more than that. There are several contradictory reports about the completeness of the shows. From what I can ascertain most shows are incomplete but 08/09/77 is said to be complete. This is the first I have heard about 60s shows but I have been told he has some b/w orphan clips from 1972. Sweet bought their VCRs after the 500th was shown but there are definitely between 1 and 3 complete copies outside PVL. The BBC were offered one of these but wouldn't pay for it.

this by rights should survive really, as at the time Slade drummer Dave ?? had a terrible car crash so the insert tape was used over several weeks and even seasonal editions
