Having recently found out how good people's memories are about television some 40 years old when I posted my out of the unknown thread. I wondered if anyone can remeber anything from the missing nigel kneale plays, such as the road, the chopper (an out of the unknown installment) and the wine of india.

well does anyone have any memories of these programes. What was the plot of Bam Pow Zap! and The Wine of India, I can't find any details about them apart from that the Wine of India was set in 2050.

Obviously a great deal has been written about Kneale. Andy Murray's biography is always a good thing to read. I'd also point you in the direction of: www.quatermass.org.ukBoth 'The Stone Tape' and 'The Year of the Sex Olympics' have been released on DVD by the BFI. 'Beasts' came out a while back and all of the Quatermass stuff is available in some form. And there's also a very rare DVD of 'The Woman in Black' knocking around.

Now theres one I did watch on transmission! I remember being glued to the screen from start to finish! I didnt jump out of my seat, but somone else in the room did. Well worth tracking down.

I think you will find some clues about the plots in those links I posted in this thread! Wine of India, I believe, was about a future society where life and youth can be nearly indefinitely prolonged, but a date is set for a persons death (to stop overpopulation perhaps?). I dont know a lot more as that one is missing from the archives, but due to the transmission date there is just the slimmest possibility of a domestic recording turning up, and I do mean slim!! Heres a recomendation as well, when researching stuff like this, its always worth a look on IMDB to see if it has a synopsis page: www.imdb.com/title/tt0214305/plotsummarywww.imdb.com/title/tt0142001/plotsummaryI also remember watching Kinvig when it was on back in the early 80s. An often overlooked show, I think it had some fairly strong points

There's always a possiblity of a t/r being made of Wine Of India too, as the odd Play For Today from 1970 has turned up this way in more recent times (e.g. Robin Redbreast).
Bam Pow Zap! was about a boy addicted to comic books, from what I can remember, and the distinction between what happens in them and real life becomes somewhat blurred to him.
