I thought someone - possibly Network - had tried to, but there was a rights-related problem that couldn't be overcome?

hasn't it been released in German? As a German co-production, the British side of things(the global group i think) has been very hard to track down. There has been little seen since of the 1970s Global group productions' . Rumours abound that one partner James Gatward keeps them in a shed somewhere refusing to let them out. ..so i have heard.
I think 'Boney' the aboriginal detective was one of theirs as well?

Well William! the basic plot is that a man escapes to Earth , from a planet governed by women who want to give him a good thrashing for being naughty.
Lovely cast of frauleins, Judy Geeson and Dawn Addams .
Plus strong support from the likes of Gareth(blake7)Thomas and Derek Farr.
However budget was about 2 quid and a couple of Marks, and also apparently, culture clashes in the production dept caused the whole thing to fall to pieces, shame it was quite enjoyable.
