Hi there
Does anyone know (just generally speaking) what the archival status of John Craven's Newsround is like?
I presume some of these will exist on the tapes of very begining of some Blue Peter editions? Would that be correct?

I presume some of these will exist on the tapes of very begining of some Blue Peter editions? Would that be correct? That is correct, although obviously only on the days when BP was on. I did a compilation of John Craven material for 'The Clothes Show' and there wasn't a great deal of material other than that. I did find some studio recordings where JC was prepping etc... I've worked with John quite a bit and he told me recently he'd got a cheque for the use of John Craven's Newsround on a Doctor Who DVD. It was one of mine; 'A New Body at Last'. The clip came from a U-Matic Ian Levine recorded. The actual programme doesn't exist. It is just possible a few editions survive as off-air recordings in the BBC archive, but I have no idea if these are catalogued. Paul

Hello all. I have an edition or two of john cravens newsround that I got from the internet a while ago. I presume these are in general circulation, but I can try and dig out some details if anyone thinks they may be rare.

Our Blue Peter book logs all the editions that survive on Blue Peter tapes.
Our Children's Guide lists all the pre-1980 BBC holdings.
Kal hold 3 editions on 1500 plus whatever other private holdings that Paul V may know about.
Hope that helps.
