I just seen a clip featuring a University Challenge sketch with the host Bamber Gascoigne with Bruce Forsythe, Frankie Howard, Tommy Cooper and Lionel Blair. Could anybody tell me which show it is from? It's from Frankie and Bruce's Christmas show, made by ABC. A 90 minute show and transmitted on Saturday 23 December 1967. Unfortunately the show no longer exists (unless anyone knows differently) and a 15-20 minute segment survives on a reel to reel home video recording. Where did you see the clip ?

Any idea on why/how this comes to survive?
If it was a home reel why not the full hour?
Any idea how Howerd's Hour survives?

I've got the same clip any idea who has the 15-20 mintue version, and is there any truth in the rumour that i have heard of 15 mintues of On The Margin existing on a similar format

Any idea on why/how this comes to survive? Some wealthy person with a domestic video recorder taped it in 1967 and kept the tape. Check through your own collection of recordings you've made yourself - you'll probably find lots of examples where you've taped something over something else, but the new programme is shorter than the old one and so you've still got the end of the old show. It could well be as simple as that. Or maybe the tape had deteriorated over 40-odd years, and that segment was the only part from which a useable picture could be recovered. There are many possible explanations.

The only bit I remember is when the contestants introduce themselves; Tommy Cooper says " Thomas Cooper, reading Pornography".
I do hope some or all of this sketch has been saved!
