I was looking at the contents of the interesting pair of Look Back At 70s Telly releases from Network and think this sort of set has been a long time in coming. Sampler dvds are maybe a better way of getting the flavour of a time and also a way of using series where not all the episodes are existing.
For me personally it is disappointing that both volumes are of seventies shows as a lot of what's featured is after my time, as it were. I wonder what the chances are of a sixties volume or two? There are plenty of series that could be featured and I wondered what other people would choose to put on such a volume. I have my own suggestions. They include Orlando, Ivor The Engine, Sexton Blake, Freewheelers, Twizzle and Origami. What does anyone think?

I'd definitely be up for a '60s volume myself as the younger kid's '70s stuff is too late for me to have any nostalgia for either.
As only two episodes of Flower Of Gloster appear to survive, that would seem to be a perfect choice to include in a sixties volume (plus i'd like to see it again!). I concur with Dave's choices (particularly Orlando and Sexton Blake) and would add The Pingwings, The Lion, The Witch & The Wardrobe, the Pathfinders serials, Topo Gigio, Origami and Object Z Returns (I choose the latter as only episode 1 survives whereas the original Object Z serial exists complete and could in theory come out as a release in it's own right). These are all ITV choices as, going by the releases so far, the selections would seem to need to be non-BBC.
A themed series like this could carry on with more volumes and decades, with no need to limit it just to the seventies. All tastes can be covered in theory, expanding to '80s (and beyond) programmes for those that would like to see them.

I think we have been here before LOL?
my 10pence worth
I am just going to put what Network would have easy access to.Which rules out most from Southern or Rediffusion?
60s version of the Look back at Children's Telly Network Release
The Flower of Gloster. Hatty Town Space Patrol Sexton Blake Mr Piper The Tyrant King The Flaxton Boys Tom Grattan's War The Growing Summer Knock Three Times The Adventures of the Seaspray (Australian/US) The Magic Boomerang (australian) Mad Movies Mr Pastry
If anybody has a Facebook account, apparently so has Network where presumably you can lobby for releases?

Yes definitely been here before Peter but thought it might be good to give it a thread of it's own! Cheers. Some interesting choices there and a few I'd forgotten about. I suppose if the volumes followed the pattern of the seventies ones, there would be a set for young kids programmes and another for older. I probably mixed these up together.

Wouldn't minding seeing one of Granada's Zoo Time again (if any are extant?) so I'd include that in any DVD release. Perhaps examples of one or two of the Gerry Anderson shows as well as I wouldn't particularly wish to purchase an entire set of e.g. XL5 in order to see a single episode. Torchy, Twizzle or Sara and Hoppity would be good too. It's a shame these 'flavour of the period' kind of sets can't include commercials to give the total picture of period television. I guess copyright would prevent this. I note that Network feature period ads on their website from time to time though and if P.I.F. sets can be released then I'd like to see the same type of thing for ads.

Christopher: the surviving Twizzle and Sara and Hoppity were on the Space Patrol set as extras.
Peter: You're right, Network have easy access just to Fremantle and ITV Plc material. Everything else is complicated.

I wouldn't mind seeing those Sarah and Hopitty and Twizzle episodes myself but don't think I could sit through a whole set of Space Patrol to do it ;D This is why themed sets are a very good idea as some of us would just like one example to keep of certain series and not the whole run. An episode of Space Patrol would make a good addition to any themed sets though. Great music and atmosphere and it takes me back!

Er, yes Stephen. I meant really that it's a bit expensive having to buy the complete Space Patrol set just for those two extras!
