February 9th 2010 is 40 years to the day that the first episode of DOOMWATCH "The Plastic Eaters" was transmitted. To celebrate doomwatch.org are giving away 3 copies of the 1972 Doomwatch Film starring Ian Bannen and Judy Geeson.

All you have to do to be in with a chance to win a copy, is tell us in roughly 200 words why you love DOOMWATCH.

The best entries will revealed along with the names of the lucky three winners on 1st March. To enter, you can either sign up and post your entry into the Doomwatch Forum in the "DOOMWATCH 40TH ANNIVERSARY COMPETITION" section.

OR email your entry to [e-mail] with the subject "DOOMWATCH 40TH ANNIVERSARY COMPETITION" All entries received by email will be posted into the Doomwatch Forum.

Please note the DVD's are Region 2 ONLY.Winners will be notified by email. The judges decision is final. No other alternative prize will be offered, especially cash or chocolate buttons. Competition closes midnight 28th February 2010 and winners announced on 1st March 2010.

I've only seen 'Tomorrow the Rat' and the film spin-off, which isn't really enough to give an informed view of the show.

Perhaps 'Doomwatch' is one of those cult series where the cult following is relatively small.

DOOMWATCH IN "THE RADIO TIMES"

As ever, I am always on the lookout for new Doomwatch information, so it is only fitting that a programme born out of the pages of both scientific papers and newspapers should be researched from the very same medium! If you have access to any Newspapers and Magazines featuring either the broadcast times/articles/letters dated from 1970 to 1972, please get in touch with www.doomwatch.org

The following is a shortlist to be on the lookout for...

THE RADIO TIMES

Scans of the Monday night listings and any subsequent replies on the Letters pages.

Doomwatch featured on the front cover three times during it's run, each to promote the start of the season. So far, I have a good quality copy of the First issue that features Doomwatch on the cover dated 5th February 1970.

The Second issue dated 12-18th December 1970 was emailed to me as a high resolution scan.

The Third issue dated 3 - 9th June 1972 was also emailed to me by a fan - the cover that I have appears in colour but I only have poor quality scans in Black and White of the actual article inside, so a nice colour scan of those pages would be fantastic.

I have good quality copies of The Radio Times listed below:

Just a quick bit of news...

The BFI at Southbank are screening C5's 1999 TV Movie, Doomwatch: Winter Angel starring Philip Stone playing the original Doomwatch head honcho Dr. Quist. Trevor Eve is the terrifyingly brilliant Neil Tannahil, who stumbles upon a deadly secret at an abandoned nuclear power station.

As well as the film, the BBC 4 Documentary The Cult... of Doomwatch will be shown on the 23rd of February as part of the reboots and reimaginings season. Further info at www.doomwatchblogger.blogspot.com
