The excellent bbc4 docu had him in front of masses of film cans, saying he would sift through it one day.
Is the archive complete?
Is there missing stuff in the cans?

Does that include episodes of the largely forgotten (except by me!) series Little Laura ? Thanks.

I was wondering about that very thing myself, Kevin. I think most of the stuff made as independent productions by Smallfilms exists but not early series they made which were produced by Rediffusion (e.g. the original Ivor The Engine series, which all seem to be missing apart from the first story, a few Noggin The Nog tales and things like Dogwatch, Alexander The Mouse etc.). Everything from Pingwings onwards seems to exist apart from a one-off '70s Noggin tale listed in the Kal guide as wiped.
I'd like to see the Postgate archive catalogued properly though - you never know what may be found to exist in it.

Laurence,
I have never heard of a 70s version of Noggin. Do you have any other information on it please? I thought that there were only the 60s ones and the 2 colour serials in the 1980s.

I Wonder what will happen to all of the 'stuff', such as props, clothes, equipment, etc. which went to make the programmes? I saw the BBC4 docu but to my mind his son really didn't strike me as being all that entusiastic about keeping/preserving stuff!

According to the ' 90s Kal children's guide I have, there was one serial produced in 1973. Presumably in colour but I don't have any more info, i'm afraid. It seems odd they re-made just this one story at that time and I was wondering if it was an error. I hope the Postgate film archive is treated with respect by Oliver's family and preserved properly. It represents a significant collection of classic children's TV of it's time.

Oliver and I were both ex-alumni from University of Kent.
He often told me he had no missing stuff. He actually had a lot, but its never been catalogued fully. Anything he thought sub-standard he wouldn't allow to be transferred off film. The Postgate Society are in the best position to now talk to his family, or indeed Dick at the BFI.

This is very good news, Chris! What sort of missing things are we talking about here?
I just hope this whole collection is safe though. That is the bottom line.
