I was retuning one of our PVRs the other day because it wasn't picking up some channels (during the recent channel reshuffle the rescan I did at the time didn't pick up everything) and whilst testing it out I fell upon 'Viva' who were showing something like "Westlife's Best 32 Christmas Anthems" or somesuch.
As usually happens with these countdown shows, the announcement inserts and the actual music videos are so obviously put together at different times (I hate it when the announcement segments even freezeframe at the end, totally ruining any supposed 'liveness' of the transmission).
Anyway, something odd caught my eye at the start of Mud's "Lonely This Christmas". I saw a brief flash of a VT countdown clock with an ITN logo on it. At first, I assumed it was a modern 'ITN Source' clock dubbed on to a copy perhaps sourced (ahem) from them.
However, I wound back, and it was a vintage chalkboard VT clock, with "Rec. Date ---/11/74" (the day bit rubbed out and just a blurry chalky mess left in its place) and had a physical ITN logo block pinned in place within the centre of the clock.
This would seem to indicate the official music video for the record was actually taped at ITN. Or perhaps edited at ITN?
Anyway, did ITN ever use their facilities for commercial, non-news production during the 70s? Or at any time earlier or later? Has anyone heard of this before?
If not, how could that ITN logo have got there? It definitely was NOT an electronic overlay, it was a real physical badge.
Here's a screenshot for evidence:
Apologies for the low-tech method of capture; this was on the bedroom PVR which has no HDD, and is only connected to a DVD Recorder. I do have it recorded to disc, but it's not finalised yet. ;D
