Hi, I know this is probably not the correct forum as this is (hopefully) not a missing item. I am hopeful that an expert amongst you will help me identify a film I saw with my Dad sometime between 1971 and 1977. It featured a young lad who was trying to make his way across a desert somewhere. As he is crossing the desert, he is blinded by a Spitting Cobra. As if that wasn't bad enough, he is then stung by a Scorpion. The reason I can pinpoint it to that timespan is because we came home in 1971 from living abroad and local cinema closed in 1977. Your help would be greatly appreciated. Thanks in advance, Peter

I know the one you mean - but can't remember the title.
The boy was in a light-aircraft smash, and had to make his way back to civilisation on his own thru the desert.
Got a feeling his father was played by someone like HARDY KRUGER.....

Or was it showing at the cinema around that time, as a newly released film ? Can you remember anthing else about the film ?

Hi Ted, I'm afraid I can't remember anything more from this film. I would have been anything between 7 and 13 at the time. I believe it would have been a new film at the time. A couple of films I do remember seeing at the same cinema from that period were "Digby" in 1973 and "It shouldn't happen to a vet" in (I think) 1977. I wonder if there is a site that tells you which cinemas played which films. By the way, the cinema fell the same way as many others - it became a Bingo hall. More recently it became "Marks & Spencer". Peter

I believe the film was called "Lost In The Desert", an Australian feature from 1970. I saw it once, in the cinema around 1978, and have never seen it since but it lingers in the memory. Details on the internet are scarce, though the following link contains some recollections: www.wordridden.com/article.php/20030619135551.xml/allHowever, it gets the ending wrong, as I clearly remember the signal shot and the ensuing silence eventually broken by the sound of the horn of a jeep which the man's companion was driving.

Hi David, That sounds like the one. Thank you very much for your help on that - another mystery solved thanks to the kind people of this group (the other mystery ended with the finding of "Animals are beautiful people" after many years). Shame it doesn't appear to be on any form of home video/DVD; I shall have to keep scouring the Radio & TV Times to see if it makes a rare TV appearance. Thanks again, Peter
