There's a link below to an interesting news item today with regard to the BBC and the British Library joining forces to broaden access to their archives. Potentially promising. I was interested in the comment that a similar agreement has already been made by the BBC with the BFI. Will this eventually mean access to BBC material that currently lies inaccessible in the BFI / NFTVA archive due to excessive cost? Hopefully so. Anyway, here's the link:

This is good news if it's meaning the sort of access we are hoping for. That is to say public access and not just for researchers or the industry. I didn't know about the B.F.I. deal either, which a good thing but the only area that falls through the net there is ITA programmes where the B.F.I. have the only surviving copies such as with Rediffusion or ABC recordings.
Still, it's been a long time coming. I hope sombody who knows all about this can update us on progress as it happens.
