Hello people People who may want to come next year need to know that our venue is changing. We are staying in Stourbridge but moving to The Talbot Hotel. www.thetalbot-hotel.co.uk/It's in the High Street one minute away from the Town Hall but it offers improved facilities, better catering, cheap accommodation, a free car park, smoking facilities and more space. The dates remain the same except the December event is the last Saturday of November. If the Moderators would be kind enough to let this stick somewhere for a few weeks that would be super. :-) Thanks Chris Perry

Your events sound really good, Chris. Do you ever have any of them London way or are they always Birmingham? I would like to come but this is a bit far for me.

As far as I am concerned Birmingham is the best place to host these events as it's central and easily accessible for everyone. And no, I don't live there, Manchester would be preferable for me but it's what's best for the most people.

For those who travel by public transport Birmingham is reasonable as there are lots of trains to lots of places. However, Stourbridge isn't Birmingham. Anybody wanting to get home by public transport would have to first get back into Birmingham.
London would be good for many, a location reasonably convenient for New Street Station could come second.

We began in Stourbridge, we remain in Stourbridge.
Our forays into London are very very costly and simply uneconomic unless sponsored by other people.
We are a free event, so we have to control our costs.
People often come on forums and say, "I'd do anything to see such and such". Well travelling to the Midlands is a very simple thing to ask people to do.
Indeed since we are in the Midlands that makes us easier to get to if you live up north or in parts of East Midlands, North Wales, Manchester etc. I don't see why everything needs to be London-based all the time :-)
As for Stourbridge - junction 4 of the M5 is very close to get to Stourbridge; train from New Street or Snow Hill is every 20 mins, and we have direct trains to London every day to Marylebone. So I think we are pretty easy to reach. Now we have a free car park as well, which makes travellling easier.

May I also add we did one event in Birmingham city centre, it was our worst ever attended event, cost me three times more than normal and raised only £110 for charity so we abandoned that plan a long time ago.

What about those in the south west, Chris? Birmingham is ever further than London for them Seriously, I work odd hours and a three hour trip to Birmingham and again back after makes it hard for me to attend where it is now. I'm sure it is easier for some though. Hope it goes well anyway. Dave

South West? Very straightforward. M5 all the way up to junction 4. Trains to Birmingham New Street and change for Stourbridge Junction. Sadly Dave we are not a travelling roadshow. ;D We live in Stourbridge, we do events in Stourbridge. We have been there 20 years and are happy to stay by our homes. If you want to pay for a venue then we'll come down to wherever you live, and you can pay all the considerable costs. A Bafta event costs on average 3000 pounds. A Stourbridge event costs £500. I can't really believe people are discussing about having to travel to a free event offering something unique. This is often the only chance to see something again. Personally I'd chop my right leg off and hop there regardless of cost, date or distance if it mattered enough to me lol. If it ain't convenient then I am sorry, I understand why you or indeed other people can't always come of course, but why should we be driving all over the UK for your benefit, when we run free events, do this for free and get no reward? I'm sure you can see my point. By the way we regularly have people from Bristol who attend. We also have people from Dorset and Wiltshire. Perhaps you can chat to people on here, Mauso or Roobarbs about car sharing?? Indeed, I am happy to offer limited free accommodation to you or others if that helps? c

It isn't moaning about a free event, Chris. If you read my posts, you will see that I think they are a great idea. The further away you live from them though, the longer travelling time it takes, no matter how much motorway or train access a town has (I don't drive by the way). I sometimes work half a day and if the event was near to me I could probably go there straight from work. I also have to get home at a reasonable hour if I am up early the next day. Birmingham would be about six hours of travel out of the day after working a full shift so it's not realistic for me.
I don't expect anyone to launch a roadshow on my behalf but you seem a bit touchy about the subject. I still hope it goes well anyway.

I'm not annoyed with anyone Dave. If archive Tv is just a casual interest then I fully understand why travelling might be a hassle, but if its a once in a lifetime chance to see something I would take the weekend off work and treat yourself lol. xxx

Definitely not casual, Chris, but some of us have other things and other priorities in our lives too. These have to come first sometimes.

Hi Guys, I travel from Scotland to Stourbridge, where else are you going to see classic programs like these. As for the change of venue, i think this will be betterand i think guests well prefer it. Could the event be longer, say starting at 11am? Its just a pity of the change of date for the december one, but i'm sure i can change my holidays. Keep up the good work guys

Hi Guys
Thank you for another fabulous day on Saturday - really good atmosphere as usual. It was great to see so many familiar - and new - faces. It really is like one big family reunion - and wasn't it great to have so many cakes? Your supporters are very, very generous - the Christmas cake was something else, absolutely amazing.
The auction was brilliant and to the £600 it raised has to be added £193.19 from the buckets resulting in a total of £793.19.
We are so grateful to you all and, of course, your supporters, for everything you do for the RNLI whose volunteer crews really do appreciate your support and help in continuing to raise funds for the lifeboat service so that they can continue to save lives at sea.
Many, many thanks. A great day, and a great year.
With best wishes.
Sue from the RNLI
