Love the forum...have been visiting for a few months now.
I work in television in Australia and have been researching some ATV/BBC programmes recently. I have come across quite a large number which i need to know the archive of as I understand some ATV may no longer exist. Rather than post in 4 or 5 different threads, i thought I'd post in one to save room. Speaking to tv companies is hopeless and I understand you guys have some guide available which tells you whether a programme exists or not.
The programmes are:
Alexander the Greatest Arthur Haynes Show Love and Kisses Living It Up Arthur’s Treasured Volumes Best Things in Life Coppers End My Good Woman/Big Boy Now Do Not Adjust Your Set The Worker HMS Paradise Lollipop Loves Mr Mole Pardon the Expression The Squirrels Up the Workers The Army Game/Bootsie and Snudge/Foreign Affairs Scott On Whacko The Dick Emery Show (BBC) A Life of Bliss,
I need the info urgently so I would be grateful for anyone who could provide this information.
Thank you once again

Hi Ralph, That's an interesting mix of material on your list. In addition to ATV and the BBC, some of that material is from the Granada Television and Thames Television (Fremantle Media) or Rediffusion libraries. Who have you contacted so far and what kind of response did you get? Can you email me me-forum@uk2.net and I'll put you in touch with some very helpful contacts who should be able to confirm archive status and arrange for the material to be returned to the archives. Could you fill us in with any more information on the episode titles or a brief synopsis? There are many people on this forum who will be able to consult the Kaleidoscope guides and some who will have access to the information that will be included in the forthcoming editions of the guide. I understand that Granada Television have been very co-operative with the guide's researchers this time around.

Sorry to raise any false hopes, I don't have any of this stuff. I just wanted to know of their archive status and the general ATV picture of things.

No problem Ralph. I have great hopes of Britsh tv film recordings existing in private collections in Australia. There was an awful lot of missing British tv screened in Oz during the sixties. We can live in hope Can anyone help Ralph with info from the Kal guides? I don't have them yet, but intend to invest in the new editions.

I don't have the Kal guide here at the moment, but i've listed what I know from memory. Hope it helps:
Alexander the Greatest - all survive although most are b/w telerecordings Arthur Haynes Show - I think they all survive 9certainly most do) Love and Kisses - never heard of this one. Living It Up - ditto. Arthur’s Treasured Volumes - not sure. Best Things in Life - is this the 1969 Terry Scott thing? Think they all survive, if so (although a misture of different formats; colour VT, colour t/r, b/w t/r). Coppers End - not sure offhand. My Good Woman/Big Boy Now - most exist although some are b/w t/rs. The only colour ones are from the last season (a few missing from this season too). Do Not Adjust Your Set (Rediffusion / Thames, not ATV)) -9 of the 13 Rediffusion editions (series 1) survive plus the Thames Xmas special and several of the second series (does anyone know exactly?) The Worker (Rediffusion, not ATV) most survive except series 3 (1969-70) which has a few missing. Also series 4 is only b/w t/rs. HMS Paradise - (Rediffusion) one episode in private hands is doing the rounds (that's all) Lollipop Loves Mr Mole - I think they are all missing although I think the follow-up "Lollypop" survives as b/w t/rs. Pardon the Expression (Granada) - as it's Granada, I think they all survive (certainly some do as i've seen clips). The Squirrels - all survivein colour minus the pilot (a forgotten ones, this - i'd like to see a DVD release). Up the Workers - series 2 only. The Army Game/Bootsie and Snudge/Foreign Affairs (Granada) - some of the Army Game survive as they've been repeated on G+, although there seem to be a lot of gaps. Scott On )BBC) - patchy; some survive, although not many in colour. Whacko (BBC) - 2 episodes plus one in colour from the '70 s revival. The Dick Emery Show (BBC) - most of the early series (1964 - '71) are wiped bar a 1964 compilation edition. Increasinly lots survive in colour from 1972 onwards till the end in the early '80s. A Life of Bliss - not sure.

Love and Kisses and Living It Up were made by Jack Hylton for AR. LIU is in the NFTVA, as is a version of Love and Kisses shown on ABC as a complete programme.
Love and Kisses is a stage play, staring Arthur Askey, and it was filmed in 1955 for TV and cut into 'episodes' for showing on Rediffusion, each one with a live intro and end comment from Askey. Those 'episodes' and intros don't exist, but the whole play was shown complete on ABC (tx 23.12.56) and that's what we have in the Archive.
Living It Up was a TV version of Askey's radio show Bandwagon, with Richard Murdoch. The NFTVA has the programmes txd 10.5.57 and 27.10.58.
Hope this helps.
