Wouldn't it be great if the BBC made a big splash about this and made a programme about the discovery and restoration followed by a full screening! It might help flush out a few more lost totp. The quality looks to be pretty good too, much better than I imagined.

It was mentioned that there could be two performances in the can anymore news on this?Wouldn't it be great if they could do a colourisation job similar to the beatles all you need is love(our world performance).Surely a find of this importance warrants the kitchen sink.

It's a very important find in pop TV terms. For that reason, I hope that as much restoration as possible is applied to the recordings; it needs the skills of the Doctor Who restoration team to deal with problems such as pronounced picture disturbances etc. though. I'm hoping there will, with time, be a way to at least drastically reduce these.

It says about the source in the first posting:
'The tape came from Bill Harrison who stores, catalogues and repairs (mostly) audio material for various clients in the music industry. Ex_1” videotape'.
This is repeated in one of the latest music magazines (I think Mojo). The actual person who the tape came from has not been mentioned but it's said to be a 'name' in the music biz.

The article is indeed in the latest Mojo (page 18). The screen shots are also reproduced, together with a photo of a section of the actual videotape...looks in pretty bad shape (though I'm unable to identify the machine it's being played on).

I heard it was part of John Lennons collection

Well, Lennon had a video recorder circa 66-68- and I suppose it's possible. If indeed it was his, I wonder what other treats he recorded. Lennon was certainly fastidious about keeping his audio collection, so maybe some of that ended up in the Lennono archives

As has been mentioned earlier in the thread, this recording was made on 1" tape, a format which didn't exist until the late 1970s, and one which was never intended for use domestically. I'm not saying that John Lennon -or whoever- wasn't poised over the pause button in July '67, just that he wouldn't have recorded it on this tape; it's a dub from an as-yet undiscovered source, and a dub which is probably no more than 30 years old. BFI news-watch: the discovery is also written up in today's Daily Telegraph www.telegraph.co.uk/culture/music/music-news/6703103/Pink-Floyd-vintage-footage-found.htmland was also featured in a news story on tonight's Radcliffe and Maconie show on Radio 2.

The source is a 2" quad master, which was optically converted. This has been mentioned already. 1" came in around 1982.

Offhand, I can remember there were several appearances for Purple Haze so it depends on which one this clip is from. I could check the details of the editions and post them here though.

didnt they put the wrong record on one time when recording totp with hendrix there. he said something like 'great record but its not mine'. if a 16mm exists of purp haze youd think there was bits either side of it maybe. mystery why its never been officially released after being used in documentarys.
