I think the edition featured House That Jack Built. I will check up and post back but won't have time till tomorrow to do this.
Purple Haze only officially exists as an nth generation VHS tape. The BBC have a copy of it in this quality but up till now no one has identified who has the 16mm copy. This is why it has never appeared on any releases of any kind.

the short bit of purp haze they used in that US rock legends bit was presumably taken from the 16 mm, looks pretty clean, they must know who has it. seems suprising it stayed under wraps.

The very first Missing Believed Wiped had a panel discussion on pop TV and something that kept coming up was the implication that some missing UK material resided in the U.S. (including the Purple Haze clip) so I guess it's quite possible that a source for the 16mm is commonly known although the BBC have not retrieved a copy so far.
The Wind Cries Mary clip was in the posession of the Hendrix estate a few years ago (presumably still is), Bob. It's in the form of a mute film clip (this has obviously leaked out somewhere along the line as fan re-dubs have been attempted a few times).

Just think - all of the above would probably still exist if TOTP was owned and transmitted by German broadcasters.
I often fantasise about going back in time with a video recorder or camera and capturing classics like these off the tele!
In fact to indulge me a little - how would one get a clean copy of a 405 line TV transmission with todays gear and the TV sets available in the home back in 1967. Yeah I know I'm crazy!!!

Nice photos, Paul! The Top of the Pops one must be 30th March 1967 as you can see Peter Murray to the left. The only other Murray show with Hendrix used a repeated clip so they wouldn't have been seen in the studio at the same time. It also eliminates this edition as the source of the 16mm Purple Haze clip as the studio backdrop is different. It must then originate from one of the other two performances.

No you're totally right, Paul! Just compared the two and the background is the same. I remembered the clip as being different for some reason. So that proves the clip is from 30th March then.

Excellent work guys the images definitely match, any clues as to the Wind Cries Mary clip? It's good to think that the Cat Stevens clip may survive somewhere.

The 04/05/67 episode may exist as the kinks performance does!

The 04/05/67 episode may exist as the kinks performance does! Are you sure Bob? I'm aware that 'Autumn Almanac' survives but 'Waterloo Sunset' ?
