If you are at a HE institute, you should be able to get into The Times digital archive via your Athens password, and thus seek out the TV pages for any day up to 1985. Else you have to pay. ITV listings up to 1985 freely available here: tvtip.bufvc.ac.uk/index.phpIf you want to cough up, you can also get the TV pages from The Mirror and The Express: www.ukpressonline.co.uk/ukpressonline/

I couldn't for the life of me work out how to access the free TV listings up to 1985 link! Any help appreciated - I kept getting a login page but it doesn't tell you HOW to get a login in the first place!

Any help appreciated - I kept getting a login page but it doesn't tell you HOW to get a login in the first place! Sorry, but that site seems to be behind an Athens password too! The site had remembered my Athens password and took me straight in, so I didn't realise. Here is an example of the output it provides (for a random week in 1962): www.steve-p.org/TVTIP.PDF As you see, it is quite useful. If you haven't got an Athens password, find a mate who's a student or works in the HE sector. You can get the Times online thing I mentioned too as well as other groovy stuff.

Go to your local council's website and have a look through the libraries section to see what you can get access to from home. From that, it's a simple case of joining the library (free and easy). Thanks for the tip! I find Essex Libraries subscribe to the back archive of Guardian/Observer 1791-2003, so I'll be joining to have a looksee at that....

Another site for UK television listings, (terrestrial only) is the following site: uktvschedules.editthis.info/uktvschedules/Main_PageIt is a growing site and requires further input, some years are complete in their listings, while others are empty - but its a good source of listings, particularly the early years of the BBC Television Service. Is it Stephen? I imagined it was a free thing. Simon didn't make it clear. For that amount, I'd expect to get copies of the programmes themselves! Dave
