Hi all
I was wondering what exists within the BBC archives of 'Playschool' from the sixties/seventies/eighties....
I presume, in general, quite a few editions do survive, but wondered what sort of percentages we might be talking about?
Were any editions from the eighties ever junked?

A whole load! A good representative selection from all years and way too many to list individually here. Not sure what year it becomes complete (or near complete) - probably sometime in the late '70s but i'm guessing. Possibly no year is complete but many many do exist from later on.
I wish more '60s / '70s shows had been represented half as well in the archives as Play School has for it's first decade. Seems a bizarre thing to archive that well (but glad they did) so maybe it's a Biddy Baxter / Blue Peter type scenario?

Our new Play School book due next March contains the updated definitive list of what survives post-1993 junkings... and what has been found on VHS in recent years to fill some of those gaps.

Interesting...thanks for the info....
I guessed that quite a few editions did survive, and I do agree that it, perhaps, is a somewhat odd choice to keep so many editions in the archives (when other shows got junked/wiped)...
I'd be interested in seeing the list Christopher talks about - just purely out of curiosity!
